Sounds to me like you are pretty clued up. What you are suggesting is probably the most sensible option, a little time spent will pay of.
MX3 window seals are not the best, seem to suffer with shrinkage.
Good luck… :D
Post some pictures up of your ride.
There are two types/manufacturers also. They are adjustable, but maybe not enough to compensate for RHD. There's a group buy on mx-3.com for these now:
Thought I would come back and update you on this thread as I did some extensive research on the 'Heat' light for an MX6 import owner… plus I own an import MX6 of my own.
All of this relates specifically to the MX6 imports and the information was sourced through Mazda Japan. I see no reason that the MX3 would be radically different.
The heat light relates to a 3rd sensor fixed to the CAT, it is NOT a 3rd O2 sensor as some would claim. It is simply a heat sensor to make sure the cat is operating at the correct temp. 99% of the time when this light comes on, it is because the sensor itself has failed, it does not usually mean the cat has failed. If the car has good emissions and is not showing any engine codes, then the sensor has failed. This sensor does not show up as an engine code. This sensor is simply a requirement for Japanese cars.
You can quite happily disconnect the sensor, unplug the wiring and the heat light will go out. I have done this, as have other import MX6 owners and none have suffered any negative effects at all.
In fact I removed the jspec cat entirely as it's a little smaller than a UK spec one, I then fitted a higher flowing cat in it's place.
I fitted a set to my import MX6 with projector lights and it's transformed the visibility at night. I used 6k ones to get the whitest light I could, added ultra bright white LED side lights to match.
Passed the MOT fine, with a slight adjustment of the beam aim as I'd obviously knocked it when I was fixing other things with the lights removed.
The only downside is that the high beams look ugly and yellow next to these… so will have to replace them with some nice white bulbs too.
As for brightness, projectors give better lighting anyway.. but I still saw around a 200-300% increase in visibility, shadows are crisper, I can see farther and I haven't even used the high beams since fitting the HID's
Alot of people use the local travel inn the car park looks amazing at night with 100+ high performance jap metal, you can go on track on the saturday aswell if you wish. Need to say soon as details have to be given with in the next week.
I am going with a few mates scooby golf turbos and the like….
did my CBT in July, and test in October, I was riding a rs125, it was fun because it was always at the redline, it felt like you were pushing it loads only doing 70mph.
My r6 is restricted though to 33bhp, still fast as fook though, I've had it to 60 in second @ 10000rpm, it redlines @ 15000rpm
best part is the reg on the R6 first line MX03
