I would recommend doing some research and changing the distributor for an external HEI mod (also works out cheaper in the long run and easier to change parts).
You will get a better spark and its more reliable as i have known people to go through more than 5 distributors.
Putting the distributor inside and next to the hot engine was not a good idea.
With regards to the MX6/323 distributors, i would not recommend them.

Mine is only a 1.6 auto but still presentable and in daily/weekly use. I do about 300 miles a month in it to keep things ticking over. The sills are going to need sorting soon as is the sun affected red paint but the interior is still A1 and I love driving it!!

As well as checking what Marco has advised, i would also check all of the hoses and the vacuum system.
Also look at the connectors and see if there is any water ingress.

I’ve got a pair of RX8 front seats to go in mine that need mounting brackets sorting/welding/fabricating and electrics. Will get around to it one day.

If it has the power steering pipe diagram that would be brilliant, but If you can cut and paste just that diagram it would save a huge email and you could possibly just post it on here. Whichever suits you best would be great for me. Cheers
