The new one has almost perfect original arches and the shell is quite straight. usual paint issues with fade and some laquer peel here and there.
The doors, bonnet and hatch and front wings are not great.
worst thing is there is a lot of play in the front suspension / steering. haven't got under it yet (stuck at home with ill kids…)
Looks like I'll use this one for donor parts (exhaust and cat, battery, back tyres which are all good) then I'll scrap it and drive the other one again.

I was thinking about doing this same thing to my OE seats, nice work! the foam looks a tad bit different is that the difference from drivers to passengers?
The foam is identical from passenger to drivers side… its just an optical illusion. (my poor photography skills)
Its an easy job to do. recline the seat forward and at the base there are about 5 copper plated steel clips wound around steel wire sewn into the ends of the seat covers at the bottom of the cloth. these can be uncoiled with two pairs of needle nose pliers (or cut off with snips) you can then slip the seat cover up about half way and then then there are 3 more steel wire coils to remove in the front face of the foam. with the head rest off, you can carefully slip the seat cover off the plastic head rest holders. the foam just pops off, then, as in every haynes manual, refitting is the reverse of removal.
well worth the effort 8)

Looks cracking mate. Im just starting on my own project and want to tackle the interior soon. Just wondering how you went about removing the centre console? A simple job of just unscrewing? I also want to do the small air vents and the dash surround.
Whoaaah, been a while, but yeah, if I remember, was just a few screws , the vents should just pop out with a carefully placed flat screwdriver.
Didn't last long? Been sat on the drive for over 5 years haha!
In the state it was (no mot/tax) to sell it I would get £300
To get it on the road and up to a spec that I would be happy with would cost me £300-400 and then the car would still be worth only £600-700 so its not worth the time effort and money for then something to possibly go wrong within the future. Could possibly turn into a money pit?
Saying that I have now bought a V8 Toyota Soarer haha
If it was worth then it would have been a different story as I loved the little coupe :)
Couple of pics I suppose as you can't update without pics :D ?
He then picked up an hammer and this happened
Yeah I was going to get the H4 telescoping bulb HID set, but found a dual bulb set with HID bulb and a Halogen for high beam in one H4 mounting. they should work out nicely
I just wire wheeled it. For some of the subframe parts I immersed them in rust converter. It's the best paint I've used, certainly better than hammerite.
Nice parts mate exhaust looks sweet!
In all honesty it's pretty simple doing your own induction pipe and cone filter set-up. Just a case of finding the right size ports to bolt/epoxy into a pipe.
(If you put a small breather filter on top of the rocker you only need create two connections to your new air pipe)
The throttle body and MAF on the 1600 is 2.5" so that's a nice common size to find a few silicon joiners in.
sad to see another one go :(
dont know if you did get any forged internals in the end but if you want to part them i may be interested.
theres a load of good parts and im sure you will do well out of it.
Few progressions today removed front bumper in order to remove fog lights to allow for cold air feeds.
May also have a side cold air feed from bumper. Not sure yet.
Relocated coolant reservoir. Hopefully it will still function in its position.
Now need to get ducting in, clean up and re spray components while front bumper is off, extend coolant feed. Then get a nice large tig welded intake pipe.
Also found a breather pipe that connects under throttle body loose and hanging off. Now clamped this in position so it's not moving!.
Also thinking about getting evans waterless coolant while I'm playing with coolant system.
Hello fella long time no speak. Thought i would drop back and see how things are going. I take it the old girl has gone now. Hope you had fun with her :)
