DILLIGAF?: Project Ratty

  • @8016d44cab=Mooneggs:

looking good!! I hope the LED's don't burn out. I tried some for a while and because they are on the dimmer circuit it seems to put a higher load on them or something… not sure... I hope it works out for you though!

Hmm, I'll keep my eye on them, I never quite understand the dimmer option on dashboards. Why would you not want to be able to see your dials at night?

  • well I commonly turn mine down way low so it's less glare so I can focus on the road…

right now I'm running stock bulbs with red lighting... kind of like inside a stealth vehicle haha 8)

Tbh im the same i turn mine down as myself i feel i see the road clearer at night and dont have a distraction from the dash..
Mind you some nice subtle interior lighting ie: red or blue would be nice got me thinking here now ….i see a new addition coming..

  • Nightstalker, Did you just swap the bulbs over, or did you change the tinited plastics over the top?

Mine have a red tinited plastic covering, so trying to get any other color that won't have a red tint is going to be a nightmare lol

Yeah, just swapped the bulbs over and removed the tint completely.

  • Thanks to some great guys on here (Ryan and Famine) Bert will be getting lippy. Ryan has given me his old broken OEM lip and Famine is giving me the half that Marvin has as well (the side that is broken on Ryans) as the number plate mount when I go and purchase his rear seats (to replace my tatty ones) on the weekend :D

I've now got all the bulbs I need to finish my LED dash convo so when it's dark I shall post some pics up (if I'm still awake- god damned early shift this week!).

Hopefully by the weekend Bert will be rocking an OEM front lip with the Leon splitter for added depth  And I'm on the hunt for a new front bumper and Pass wing to sort the horrible front end mess out! And I'm measuring the spot lights on the Pug up to see if they'll fit

  • Looks like my instrument panel is being removed again.

As for the dimmer if it does not bother you, join the wires on the back of the dimmer panel and that will short it out so the LED's wont blow.
Led's do have a short life on a rheostat as they are not designed for fluctuating currents, its the same as energy savers and dimmers at home

  • Some people might think me a little odd in doing what I've just done (my girlfriend in particular).

I've replaced my half leather rear seats with some cloth ones thanks to Famine. I'm not a fan of the half leather seats and they were looking a little tatty in my mind (they are up for sale if anyone is interested, PM me).

I also salvaged the number plate mount from Famine and half the front lip. Once again, my girlfriend thinks the number plate mount looks horrible but I think it looks better than having bits of tape showing. I'm going to match it to the colour of the bumper.

I was out this morning when a parcel came so can't get it until monday and I'm hoping it will be Ryans front lip. Once I get it I'll be sorting it out and spraying both halves and fitting them with the Leon splitter also.

  • Little update. I've got my splitter primed and test fitted with the Leon splitter.

These are the two halves I got from Famine and Ryan (cheers guys, you're awesome)

Prepped, primed and fitted (using zip ties )

Just needs some slight adjustment on the Leon splitter and paint.

And here's my speedo so far, I need to adjust the positioning of some of the bulbs because there is a dull patch on the centre dials where the light isn't getting through.

  • splitter looks realy well could i pinch your idea please

    NO! It's mine! lol

Crack away mate, I've still got a lot more to do on it to make it how I want it. I'm thinking of getting both splitters bonded and smoothed together to make them one, looks like a trip to a body shop may be in order.

  • lol thanks

  • Looking well. :) Did my packaging put up much of a fight?

It would have been a bitch if I didn't have a very sharp knife

I'm just waiting for someone to give me an idea of a price to blend both together and sort out the front end of the car

  • Sprayed up the splitters this afternoon

  • ooooooooohhhhhhhh loving the custom splitter, you have done a good job.

It's all right isn't it, I'm quite chuffed (just don't look too closely

I think the next step is to cut the bottom part of the bumper out and possibly mesh it.

  • In the photos it looks mint. Could always try photo shop to experiment how the bumper might look.

Good idea and I think I'll definitely be doing it judging from this quick PS I did

    That looks great.

I'll have to get onto the PO for breaking the other side of that perfect splitter I sent you.
