Sam's Proper MX-3 - LT Turbo project *Parting out*

  • Cheers Josh shouldn't be too long now hoping for a sunny weekend on the 4th of May 8) Fitting a replacement wing tommorow with Archenemy booked up for Sunday to come and roll and flare again. Had to pay extra to get them down as the local guy was out the country till end of May and I wanted it sorted before Japfest on the 12th, so the fella is having a 250mile round trip just to roll one arch!

  • oh wow, yeah that is a trip to roll one fender :) It is looking good, can't wait to see that new wing on there either. nice progress!

  • Aswell as His long journey down it looks like we might be in for some 60mph winds & rain on Sunday, us living very close to the sea it could get quite extreme!
So another pita thing about low is getting the car off the ground for work purposes. I have a three stage method now> drive up onto wooden blocks, scissor jack then fits undo the sill, then trolley jack under the front!
Old wing off was pretty easy really, managed it on my own :D

    Replacement wing on.

whilst the car was up performed and Oil and filter change which should of been done a while ago judging by what came out…

  • Looking good Sam you fellow stance monkey, are you planning on doing a scrape plate underneath? I'll soon be getting rid of my sleeves to replace them with some coilovers, the lads car I'm getting them off is slammed and he just told me they have at least another 3 inches to drop :bigok:

  • Thanks Bro, I am indeed fitting a sump skid plate very soon as its had a few hit now, as have the wishbone mounting points and frame rails! Sumps the one Im worried about though for now.

Cool thats a big drop look forward to seeing yours with even more dumpage, its looking great btw according to your new signature pic.

  • Ar yes the beauties of photochop 8) Archenemy been and gone and done His thing well pretty much a carbon copy of the other side :D Came all the way from NE London in a lovely little CRX on Work wheels

  • Sounds good I spotted a trial version I might have to play with that a later date. I use PS elements the cheap & cheerfull version.

Well bad news as I went to fit my sump guard tonight it's a bit too late as there is a crack appreared which is weeping! now Im on the hunt again for another or I wont be coming to Japfest…

EDIT > got one coming by the end of week, lets hope it IS the right one this time!

  • Did I read that you changed your fuel filter recently? I just purchased one off. Was it a fiddly job?

  • Yes I did. Its not too bad however I would recommend this tool:
A flexible hose clip driver for the lower fuel pipe, and lay some soft matting
on top of the engine to lay on.

But basically pull the IGN fuse in the engine bay, turn the engine over a few times to depressurize the system. Undo the top fuel hose to it. undo the fuel filter bracket so you can pull the filter forward and then use the flexible hose clip driver to undo the bottom hose clip, then pull the filter out and refit new one in reverse order.

i invested in one of those tools there realy handy

  • Indeed they are I bought one when I was doing all the intercooler pipe work on my last Turbo conversion, they are great becuase you can reach really awkward hose clips and tightn/untighten them no problem plus you hide the ugly bit of jubilee clip underneath/round the side so its not seen :D

  • cheers. Think i have a bendy adapter thing that does the same as one of those somewhere. Probably not as good but I think it'll have to do. Won't need to remove the fuse though as my ignition and starter switch are seperate now on the centre console.

  • Thats cool, I have one of those starter/ign. assembly plate things I've been meaning to fit for years now, would love to sink the push button start into the top of the gearknob :D

Just one more thing I remembered on the fuel filter you can undo the fuel hose clips fully till they click and they wont come apart on you like normal jubilees will wich is great as that would make it a right bitch to get them back round again.

  • you want a go baby go gearknob dont you sam!.

  • Holy shit yeah didn't realise you can actually buy them!
    http://www.mustangdepot.com/OnLineCatalog/Transmission/shifter-knobs.htm

  • Yep!, you would have make a over sleeve to cover the wire tho, wire in a relay so the switch isn't taking the load, I would also think about having it in parallel with another dash switch to stop it getting pushed when shifting. So you would have to flip a toggle on dash then hit the go baby go and boom !!!.
Then flip the toggle back to disable it.

  • Supose you woudnt see the wire with the gator so close on a mx tho.

    This is the idea
