Sam's Proper MX-3 - LT Turbo project *Parting out*

Yes I did. Its not too bad however I would recommend this tool:
A flexible hose clip driver for the lower fuel pipe, and lay some soft matting
on top of the engine to lay on.
But basically pull the IGN fuse in the engine bay, turn the engine over a few times to depressurize the system. Undo the top fuel hose to it. undo the fuel filter bracket so you can pull the filter forward and then use the flexible hose clip driver to undo the bottom hose clip, then pull the filter out and refit new one in reverse order.

i invested in one of those tools there realy handy

Indeed they are I bought one when I was doing all the intercooler pipe work on my last Turbo conversion, they are great becuase you can reach really awkward hose clips and tightn/untighten them no problem plus you hide the ugly bit of jubilee clip underneath/round the side so its not seen :D
-
cheers. Think i have a bendy adapter thing that does the same as one of those somewhere. Probably not as good but I think it'll have to do. Won't need to remove the fuse though as my ignition and starter switch are seperate now on the centre console.
-
Thats cool, I have one of those starter/ign. assembly plate things I've been meaning to fit for years now, would love to sink the push button start into the top of the gearknob :D
Just one more thing I remembered on the fuel filter you can undo the fuel hose clips fully till they click and they wont come apart on you like normal jubilees will wich is great as that would make it a right bitch to get them back round again.
-
you want a go baby go gearknob dont you sam!.
-
Holy shit yeah didn't realise you can actually buy them!

Yep!, you would have make a over sleeve to cover the wire tho, wire in a relay so the switch isn't taking the load, I would also think about having it in parallel with another dash switch to stop it getting pushed when shifting. So you would have to flip a toggle on dash then hit the go baby go and boom !!!.
Then flip the toggle back to disable it.
-
Supose you woudnt see the wire with the gator so close on a mx tho.
This is the idea

Managed to get outside dodging the rain to change over the sump today.
Damage to old one.
cleaned both mating surfaces with TF-90 a chisel and some brilo pads, used RTV sealent (no gaskets needed)
New one on.
Got to wait 24hrs now for the RTV to fully cure then check for leaks!I have my new camera now (Fujifilm Finepix HS20 EXR) and have found some really good locations to shoot, waiting on a tripod and some sun, or atleast not grey skies!)
P.s soz for the mahoosive pics! Photobucket has messed around with its editing feature and it doesnt want to resize.
-
looking good chap that should do the trick :D
-
Cheers bud Yep if it does rub through eventually though I could also weld on some titanium strips to throw some white hot sparks out :D
-
Pre Japfest clean and polish then a lovely sunny drive out in country with the '3 and the new camera.
-

Cheers Fella was a nice day once we got through the traffic. I think next time we will go up the night before and stay local to beat the queue's, saying that it probably wont be till I have done something different to the car!
Not done alot in terms of work just swapped all the dials over again so I finally have a working rev counter and accurate fuel & coolant guage, which showed up not to be working as She boiled over in the traffic 'o japfest. My fan never kicked in either so I got to wire up a manual switch to the dash just to be on the safe side.
have been outing shooting some more pics though, getting used to the camera more and using post production in photoshop aswell as the rusty recommended free trial HDR photomatix.
Also tried to capture a 360 degree panoramic interior shot through the sunroof, needs more work though something like a motorised mount would do it
I'm off out tonight to try some 'light painting' with the car and a 75 LED work lamp, will edit the pictures in later if it works…

Just looking back through this thread. That bumper really is a thing of beauty, Sam.
