Driveshaft
-
Hi all
I have a 1.8 v6 1996 R reg.
I have just changed the passenger side whole driveshaft topped up gearbox fluid. The reason being the loud clicking noise when turning.
Put new driveshaft in. None of the clicking as before when turning, but have a steady clunking noise(speeds up with acceleration obviously). When driving straight forward???
Any ideas people.
Thanks
Rob

Was the drive shaft from a brakers?
-
Hi
No, new from Car parts for less aka Eurocarparts.

When you fitted the drive shaft, did you get the gear box end to click in correctly?
-
I think so yes the the cylinder part was pretty much flush upto the gear box. But I will have a quick look tomorrow.

Did the shaft have a c-clip on the end of it? This locks it into place in the gear box. Really you need to check your work to make sure all is in order but seeing as the noise is rotational then it will be something to do with the shaft.

you wouldnt have had to replace the whole drive shaft if it clunked on turning that would just be the CV joint and they are pretty inexpesive (about £25)
have you just replaced the driveshaft or done the lot because if its just drive shaft problem is more than likely still there
