Just to update this post, on Saturday i took the MX3 down to my mates house for the rocker cover gasket change, whilst i was fitting some new speakers back and front, my mate took the rocker cover off, and discovered the gasket was not split anywhere. He checked the plugs and there wasn't any oil on any of them, and they were black on the top of each plug where they spark. He changed the gasket anyway, and suggested it might be the automatic choke causing the hesitancy of the engine. We also could hear some air possibly escaping from somewhere, but after inspecting every pipe on the car, we couldn't find anything. I have new spark plugs, Air filter, Oil and filter, fan belt, and new performance ht leads on order, and will see if that makes things any better, we have also turned the tick over screw up a little to stop the car from stalling when slowing down. I am also looking into the cost of a full stainless steel custom exhaust system, because that could also cause the car to hesitate, especially the cat. Any ideas would be very much appreciated, many thanks.

if its stalling, hesitates a lot, kanaroos a bit and you can hear air when its running, check the plastic pipe from the air filter box to the engine, its a big problem on V6 engines but the 1.6 does have it now and again, any splits, cracks not tightened or air getting in anywhere along that pipe it gets false readings from the sensors.
They are brittle when old so dont pull it about too much but bend it slightly to see if it has cracks etc in the pipe

I think its going to be a case of replacing various parts until we find the problem. Many thanks

I have been looking on the internet for a full Air induction kit for the MX3, which has to include the air pipe aswell, i have seen a lot on ebay, but am unsure which one to go for. For instance there are K&N ones on there, but it says they are for 91-94 reg, which seems as if it wouldn't fit mine. Anyone have any ideas, or links for me to look at please.
Many thanks

you could remake that hole pipe section using silicon bends and aluminium joints with the right size unions welded on .

Well I received my K&N air filter cone with fittings but no Air Intake pipe, the one thing I
Wanted was not included in the Induction kit I ordered.
I'm at a loss as to know what to do next, the standard replacement Air Intake pipe is
$87 and I can't find an aftermarket replacement with the 2 outlets for the 2 pipes that have be connected. HELP please.

could you not cut the standard pipe where its split (not too close to the edge) lpt some slightly bigger pipe over it with a jubilee clip to hold it in place? its only a bodge but i am sure it would work and probably only cost a couple of quid to do

Wayne.what I would do personally is remake that whole section out of a silicone elbow and aluminium joiners. 1 of the outlets doesnt need to be there,
as you can use one of these on top of the rocker cover where the old pipe used to join to.
then you just have 1 connection to make, so you could use something like this, which is a dump valve T piece.
and join it to the throttle body with somethin like this.
and if you cut a straight section of that elbow , you can use that to join the other end of the dump valve T piece to the MAF sensor.

mmmm shiny!! gotta get me some of that for my induction kit :D
