OBD1 or OBD2?

My friend has got some software for his laptop for remapping a car. But the program requires OBD2 connection (I know nothing on computers so I don't know why it it requires OBD2).
Will my 1998 R be OBD1 or 2?

a dyno mapped chip or EEPROM

I only know mate, because I had a remapped
chip for my pug turbo engine, wich changed the fuel
and ignition curve and upped the boost to 1bar!
The ECU needed opening up and a socket soldering
in place of the original chip to accept the new remapped
EEPROM(chip)remapping a standard ECU with a new chip usually costs around 400 quid
so if he can do it via a laptop then its a good call :)
But a piggyback or full standalone management is far more flexible
in the long run than OE ECU remapping.

you can confirm which it is by checking how many ecu connectors you have

remaps at angel tuning cost around £200 for minimal gains on a non turbo petrol engine. you will feel a difference and it will feel more plucky (on a 1.6 you could maybe expect as much as 10bhp) but on a turbo diesel (lets say 150bhp before remap) you could quite easily get that figure to over 200-210bhp. if it is free then give it a go but try not to fk up your ecu lol.
and yes as jesta said, if you have 4 yellow connectors on your ecu i believe it to be obd2 whereas if you only have 3 it should be obd1.
good luck with the remap, i am sure if it is successful there will be a few people on here that will want it done so you may have accidently set you friend up with a new business :lol:

I don't think he'd mind the extra money coming in :wink: Although it would be a hell of a way for some people to come.
