Mondeo v6 gearbox

can the mondeo v6 gearbox fit? if so a st170 box can fit
-
seen mx5 gearboxes and rx7 gear boxes mated to the K v6 engine so anything is possible but you prob still need a custom built drive shaft and linkage. Id expect if it was a easy mod it would be all over the U.S sites by now, a 6 speed mx-3 has been a discussion for a while now, with no answer. Quaife will build you a LSD 6 speed all singing and dancing box if you got a spare 10K laying around!

I don't think they can as the bell housing is different, prob need an adapter plate made up or some custom work.
The 5 speed boxes are the MTX75 so share the same internals as our G series but a bit stronger and are swapable. I know they've done a few swaps on probe talk. Still our G series is meant to be good for upto 300 whp but as we know 3rd gear is the weak point and will go anyway.
The 6 speed in the Focus ST170 is meant to be pants and alot of people swap back to the 5 speed MTX as it's stronger.

I couldn't possibly opine in terms of durability and reliability, but in terms of ratios - at least attached to the ST170 engine itself - it's bloody awful.

I've not had experience driving an ST170, just got info through speaking to a few people on Passion Ford as I wondered if it would fit the MX. I was told to steer clear as it's crap. Especially those who have tuned their ST's above 200 bhp they reckon the box lasts like 5 mins so they switch back to the 5 speed.
I was also thinking if it did fit, that would lead the way to getting us 4x4 action using the mondeo 4x4 or RS 2000 4x4, or even Jag X Type 4x4 drive train, rather than hacking up a 323 GT which are rare as it is.
Is it a true 6 speed, by that I mean is 6th a true overdrive gear taller than 5th, cos I know most manufacturers when stuffing 6 speeds into their cars all they've done is make first shorter so 6th is just as tall as 5th in most other cars. Defeats the point IMO cos you want 6th to be tall for Mway cruising.
I would love it if the MX-3 had six gears, keep the current gear ratio's as they are but add a taller 6th to give us decent MPG on the motorways but keep the acceleration from our short gears.
Hey ho guess I'll have to put up with revving at 4+k at 70 mph. That's if I could keep at that, always find myself creeping up to 90  cos I love the way the K8 sings to me
I did sort of get carried away once and hit the rev limiter in 5th, I was enjoying the sound so much it slipped my mind….... honest officer

Crap ratios and reliability-free? Sounds like a winner

**No, it's all close-ratioed, and if you're not "in the zone", forget it. My dad owned both my MX-3 before I bought it from him and an ST170 less than 2 months later. He tried to buy the MX-3 back off me at that point.
His comments were "The MX-3 has less power, but it's just faster in the real world. And nicer to drive. You have to drive like a complete twat to get any performance out of [the ST170]"
He sold the ST170 after six weeks and got a Jaguar S-Type instead **

**Indeed. I note the V6 can pull quite happily at 1krpm in 5th, so it shouldn't have any problem chugging up from 75mph in a 6th.
I had a Mondeo ST220 for about a year. The 6th was wonderful. We got 36.0mpg on the trip trundling up the A1, from a 3 litre V6 **

**I get an indicated 78mph at 4krpm, with a GPSed 74mph.
I also reached the rev limiter in 5th. For about 12 miles. An R33 Skyline GT-R passed me at about 135mph and I figured the police would see him first.
On the closed, private circuit at the back of Aston Martin's Gaydon factory that we both happened to be driving around at the time. Since that kind of thing would be illegal on the public road and I would never misbehave in such a manner.
