Intake manifold removal

Has anyone got any tips on taking the intake mani off?
I want to take it off and give it a good external clean up (much like I did with the rocker).
I've got a service manual, but they are not always as simple to follow as they are meant to be.
So has anyone done this?

Only advice is get new inlet gaskets as the old ones will probably fall to bits.
