good post admin. I'll also add, if the oil is on top of spark plugs/bottom of HT leads, then certainly the valve cover gaskets. If it's on the electrodes (blackened inside the combustion chamber) then it's either rings or valve stem seals or guides.
You can buy a compression tester in halfords. It's fairly easy to do yourself:
-take out all spark plugs
-disconnect the two fuel rail electrical plugs
-screw in compression tester into first spark plug hole
-hold open throttle body and crank the car over
usually about 6-8 cranks should see a decent reading
For a k8 ze I'd be looking around 180-210psi. It's more important that they're even than exactly a figure. I can't remember the exact acceptable range though.
If it's very low, eg 100psi, try dropping a bit oil down and see if that pushes it up higher. If it does it's very likely the rings.
Sorry, I just went back through my documents and the values didn't add up. The correct and accurate statement is my ZE has 127k that I put on it + whatever it came with (estimating between 35k-50k).
Timing belt was changed when I swapped the motor in at estimated 35-50k
Timing belt was changed when it snapped at 72k miles (I fail at maintenance) :oops:
Timing belt was changed when it snapped at 55k miles (life expectancy is 60k but I had done alot of racing on it)
I bought a car once with the seller telling me that the head was gone and beyond repair as it kept going, 3 people had bought the car and tried to fix it and given up.
It took me 20 mins to spot it, just had to throw away the old rusty coolant hose clips and replace with jubilee clips and problem solved.
To DJ: I can't remember 100% on the MX-3 but on alot of cars you can simply do away with those plastic hose ends going into the bulkhead. Just brake them off and connect straight to the pipe. Most of the time they are just there for a quick release solution. Just bin them and use jubilee clips.
@9aa7e4a219=djmarcopolo:
not necessarily, its all down to resonance, if you are squeezing a lot out of a small hole it will make a louder noise :lol:
The idea with twin monza exhausts is they can cancel each other out and makes it a lot quieter :wink:
Hahahaha i gotta say it i know its me naughty side coming out but it just has to be done you get the same when squeezing a alot into a small hole too Dj,..
hi!got de in and started with k862 for a couple of seconds.engine run fine.then i try'd mx6 ecu kl05 and injection fuse blew out and fan was going all the time. :cry:looks like this is not a obd1.
@233fb25e0b=dumplin69:
So u think if I ground it u think it will work
Its not a matter of what i think fella, you have an issue with blowing fuses and an ecu thats working thats usually down to a damage wire or fail component or bad earth, eliminate the most obvious problem check all earths and add an extra one to the casing,. it could be poss you have a duff ecu which with blowing fuses id say yes to,.. Remember no one person is an expert on forums like this its a collective of knowledge from like minded individuals who have a love for the same car..alot of things can be trial and error too,..
reading back over this your original ecu works and the kl36 doesnt so your issue is with the ecu not the car,..plz feel free to correct me,..
GUIDE TO CHOOSING A GOOD SUBJECT TITLE
Although we're chatting away each day within our community, we're in fact building an archive of incredibly detailed, accurate and search-able information for new and future users to reference. Due to this it is essential that we cleanse our data and ensure that its clear and concise.
For that reason, when starting a new thread PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE give it a relevant Subject…
For example - you're looking to buy a new Sony car stereo....
WRONG SUBJECT: 'stereo'
CORRECT SUBJECT: 'Which Sony Stereo should I buy?'
Concise subjects not only improve searching but in fact reduce the necessity to search, instead browsing the contents of a forum will reveal many questions that you may have asked yourself, however a thread titled 'stereo' doesn't give you any indication at all as to the contents of the thread.
From time to time, we'll rename any threads that fail to comply with the above, in which case don't worry its not been deleted, its just got a new name and you can always find it here…

Had a better look this weekend. The throttle body was quite gummy - I cleaned it up, checked the MAF = fine, re fitted the cone filter (took std airbox back off) and checked for leaks. When I drove it, once warmed up it started cutting out and hesitating badly. Quick look under the bonnet and I had forgotten to tighten the jubilee clip on the throttle body :oops: - there was an audiblle hiss even at idle. Once tightened the car was running perfectly. nice and responsive at all revs.
The only other issue is a bit of a jerky response on / off the throttle, mainly in 1st & 2nd. I think this is due to a bit of play in the engine mounts. (another job to add to the list!)
Check for air leaks, and check your tps reading. 800rpm is quite high, should be about 600/700, also consider doing a throttle reset, theres a guide in the how to section or pm me and ill run you through it as the guide lacks a few extra details
@9e348fbc86=djmarcopolo:
wrapping in tape is just a temp fix because its only a matter of time until it splits fully in half
I did mention it should be replace asap
MrSomebody you can ignore what i'm about to write as its more for other people who are reading this thread than for you.
Just a trivia thought to those like to know all about the MX-3.
Being LHD like the USA I wonder if in Latvia they got a proper OBDII loom after 95 unlike us in the UK with RHD who did not. We don't have a proper OBDII connector here in the UK like they do in the USA and there OBDII loom is completely different to ours because they have that proper OBDII connector and they also have an extra lambda sensor on their OBDII loom.
Just a thought.
yeah, thanks for the help.
The temp gauge read cold, but the engine was still warm from running it. I will test it again this morning. I think a new one is like 6 dollars, but I know a couple people who probably have one or two of them laying around. I am hoping that this is all that is wrong. But I guess having the fan constantly running is not the worst thing in the world.
