1.6 - 1.8 swap
-
hej guys, im new here. Wasnt sure which part of the forum this belonged in…
I have a Mx-3 1.8 v6, but its in very bad shape, the chassis has rusted right through at the back and some other stuff at the back is compleatly beyond repair.
I have seen people speak about difficultys with swaping the 1.6's to a v6 due to mounts and things, but with the v6 car as a donor would it make things simple?
Ive been offered a 1.6 for real cheap off a relative, and hoped to be able to use its shell for my old engine?
Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

It will need a massive amount of work still.
ECU and all the wiring, loads of things. Time and money.
I'd look for a V6 with knackered engine but ok body instead.

I 2nd that Mr Roc

ah ok thanks, say i did go down the long route? would i not just simply swap the ecu over?

The wiring is different.
This is a conversion that people just don't do really. A massive job.
Get a better bodied 1.8 instead.

@8b4d03926e:
V6 radiator, power steering rack, brake master cylinder & booster & proportioning valve & driver's side hard brake line from proportioning valve to front driver's side caliper & complete rear cross-member with disk brake assemblies, and front harness.
Plus basically all the front subframe plus all the front wiring harnesses with the fusebox etc. It's a hefty job but not impossible, if you have lots of time and a decent place to work on it go for it!
Pretty massive task, much easier to buy a V6, it'd need to be a super mint 1.6. In which case I'd put a bp in it and go turbo.

If you have money to spend, cut your losses now and find a nice v6, then buy a klze and put that in….... very fun!!!!!

Thats pretty good, did you manage to get any pics of the swap?
-
Yeah, got any pics?
I guess you have to swap over all the under dash wiring? Remove the Heater? and dash?
Change the Clocks?
Are the brakes the same on a 1.6?
