Removing front bumper

  • Anyone have a "how to" on getting the front bumper off?

When I get the car back tomorrow I need to try and get the bumper off to sort out the scrapes and scratches on it out and pull the dent out of the front wing

  • Let me think…........ You have 1 screw on each side of bumper that joins to wheelarch, then there are 2 14mm nuts each side in front of engine bay I think, I should know this better as I took my bumper off to paint it, sorry if it is not making sense, I know where they are but I can't explain it too well  Don't forget to remove indicators and unclip wires to them/fogs, oh yeah there are 2 bolts/screws that attach lower splitter bumper to car too, make sure you remove them too. This will allow you to remove bumper with the carrier in place. I think thats all, if it was there in front of me I could do it in 10mins!

  • Cheers bud.

I'll be able to have a closer look myself tomorrow night when I get the car back. I just remember when I was doing the light I gave up trying to take the bumper off after taking several bolts and screws out and it still being stuck.

I have a feeling there may be a few more than you have said because I'm sure I took all those out and it was still going nowhere

May end up being an on the car job if I can't figure it out

  • I will have a look at mine too tomorrow, I think I may have missed some out on top of the small grill in between headlights, there are other fixings but I am pretty sure they hold the bumper on the carrier, you can only remove carrier from bumper once you have removed both together first, once you know where they all are its a piece of piss

  • I'm going from menory too, but I think gulf's got them all. I had to take mine off to replace a headlight on my old MX.

3 around the grill under the bonnet. Each front wing fixing, and 2 on the carrier.

The carrier bolts are a bitch to get to if I remember, not alot of room to get your hands, but they are doable.

If you want to leave the carrier in place you can just remove the skin. A few more bolts to remove though but seems straigh forward.

There is a manual on .com and they picture the bolt locations for you:

Why didn't I think to look on .com? Cheers for that, should make life alot easier now

Just need to get the car back, it's been delayed until tomorrow now because the previous owner must have been blind or something and the wheels are in much worse shape than first thought

  • yeah it's really not too difficult…

2 bolts between the headlamps, 2 screws on the sides to connect the fender and bumper and then 2 or 3 nuts on each side that bolt the support to the chassis... (basically everything you already know in the diagrams :))
