Sam's Proper MX-3 - LT Turbo project *Parting out*

  • Gave Her that one winter clean up finally Gulfy ;) nice & clean now so went out and took some pictures last weekend that I had spotted the oppurtunity for a while back, glad I did for the deluge hit this weekend!

  • Like the first picture

  • Yeah that seems to be everyone's favourite photo so far :D

On a side note our invention is looking less likely to be able to be granted a patent so we are just going to run with it ourselves as quickly as possible to flood the market. Will be finishing off the two working prototypes we have and getting the video footage of what we have been up to and what our "Gizmoov" can do out there sooner rather than later!

  • Gold metallic enamel paint on order for the wheels to be painted in, got to sort out my mums garage first so there is some space to spray in.
Got these MS centre caps bought aswell.

Started looking at new tyres> Kumho ecstas seem to have rave reviews for the price as Eagle F1's are £100 each in 215/40/16 size.
Got to dial in some negative camber too by way of slotting the hubs also before I fit the new wheels up.

  • Wheel refurb. started as I'm back at work I could use the turning lathe to
sort out one of the edges. Could of done with some weld filler, but our welder
might have gone back to Poland for good! So I just mad do with emery cloth.

Next stage was to remove all the wheel weight and associated goop with a wire brush drill attachment.

Then onto a 80 grit flap wheel to remove old debris and brake dust.

Then a final going over with a scotchbrite wheel to remove the shine from paint
and a good wash out with hot soapy water, then flushed with plain water from the hose.

    Next step Paint!

  • Well my Gold paint has been lost in transit via Hermes (not surprising!) currently waiting on a refund, so while I was bored and on ebay purchased a pair of RX-7 side repeaters to see how much of an issue they would be to fit.
Think they are a lot more sleeker than standard ones, and less obvious than
the universal oval ones. Have Photoshoped crystal clear ones on there and they just stuck out like a sore thumb on a red car, so gone with the amber.

Test fit , they going to need a bigger hole making in the wing, I found an MX-6 in the breakers yesterday so traced the hole needed and also took the plugs for the repeaters.

  • Here is a little more teasing of what our new venture involves, although not just limted to cars as this was filmed this afternoon with a Gopro hero 2 camera and animated as a .gif in photoshop. Do wish I could show you the 'real' footage, but we got to keep it a secret for a while longer I'm afraid.

  • Haha, cool! What ya make of the GoPro? Been thinking about buying one of the new ones.

  • Really like it so far very easy to use interface and image quality is very good (when sunshine is added and not compressed as a .gif) Will come into its own I expect when we take it out surfin/skating/DH mountain biking etc…

Fisheye lense not that great underwater though as I tried it in the aqaurium, Think the Hero 3 has a flat screen meant for proper underwater filming though.

  • Bought a 323 Turbo manifold from the Canada! Its been properly crack tested with none this time and has new studs fitted, one less thing to worry about I guess :D So if anyone wants a crack fixed one for cheaps (NO Guarentee)
    let me know…

  • Got me some new seats coming! Something I should of done along time ago,
well look forward to making these fit..

    Celica VVTI uber comfiness:

  • Nice

  • Oooh fancy. Looks like they'll sit well!

  • What really sealed the deal was the Wife yakkin up on the passenger seat Friday night! The stench wont go away so the old seat has to go,lol

Yeah my workmate has the leather vvti seats in His Celica so a quick measure up shows the mount points are similar enough to make some brackets up and use the Toyota sliders.

  • @b3c328a668=youdirtyfox:

What really sealed the deal was the Wife yakkin up on the passenger seat Friday night!

That shit never comes out.. good choice.

  • So far we have tried: Fairy liquid, bleach, fabreze, steam cleaning & dry shampoo! Nada.

Women > know your limits!!! :bigok:

  • And here there are, sitting cosy in my front room for now! Very happy as they are mint for £140 delivered for the pair was a real steal.

Have stripped the back of one to take the base into work and start making the brackets, but…
Currently battling out a few running issues which are holding up the real mods. I wanna make. Snapped two alternator belts in a matter of weeks (Lesson learnt, don't trust a certain garage anymore after they put the belt on without even loosening off any of the tensioners! wanna know how they did that tbh?!)
Was in a rush as had to get the Dentist..

I put a new belt on the weekend and elimanated all the horrible screeching, my sump plug has started weeping and I'm loosing water from my coolant system somewhere,
New rad. on the way so I can cut that from the equation and if that doesn't solve it I'm going to simplify the system even more with an inline filler neck and coolant catch can
as I cannot see coolant leaking on the floor so it must be evaporating into steam somewhere.

MOT next month so will touch and go as to whether I will get the new seats in for that or just afterwards depending on how arsey the brackets are to fab up.

As you can see not a million miles away, but enough for the need of some custom feet on the celica subframes to match
up to the mx floorpan. The rear mount closest to the handbrake is sidemounted so that would need to come off anyway.

3mm mild steel feet cut and ready for marking, drilling and folding.

Hacksawing off the celica feet ready for new ones to be bolted down.

  • As well as the seats I'm also reworking my cooling system. The repairs that I had done twice to the missing top radiator expansion spigot are failing again, this is where I'm loosing coolant from so S/H radiator has been bought (98> Ford focus 1.8 Deisel TDDI/TDCI)with all spigots intact this time. Have a new working fan to go in that the car runs as it should.

Going to be running a coolant recovery system with a filler neck in the top radiator hose (lucky I kept the old one)
and a catch bottle to be tucked away somewhere. Have a 0.9 bar double seal cap coming also which I can change
to 1.1 if I want when going F/I.

Been a shame to say goodbye to my alu. expansion pot and stainless top hose but engine bay will look a lot tidier this way. Once I have fixed all the little running problems I'm going to be hacking up some side skirts I have had for ages that no one wants to buy so I figure I will put them to good use and try and create some front spats and some add ons for the rear spats.

Just need some good wheather as I have far too many car parts in the flat now, although it is quite cool having wheels and seats about the place…

  • With a few gaps in the rain today I went out and affixed the new fan to the rad, then it was time for something a bit more fun then fixing broken shit, and that was to break some shit…

Remember those full length side skirts I have, well not full length anymore after I hacksawed the end off. Booom front mini spats!

Got hold of a set of these also to see if they will work as an add on to the euro mini rear spats!

Also note stock wing mirrors back on, and the generally filthiness of my car…

Turns out the 323 spats fit better on the front :D

  • New radiator, working fan, OE top hose with filler neck and tucked coolant overflow tank fitted today.
Running well so far, no leaks will empty and top up with anti freeze tomorrow. Need to make some sort of rad. support too now.
