Ok so I think its time to think about the only part of the exterior aesthetics I have not touched yet and that's the exhaust. Not into massive fart cans or the dual tip so I'm thinking about running a 4" 2.25" inlet/outlet universal silencer straight along the back edge of the bumper so alot of shiny stainless is on show, already looked and a 4" unit would tuck slightly as long as I removed some of the rear lip on the bumper and didn't run the reinforcement bar! The tailpipe could then exit through the bumper somewhere?!
-
Interesting idea. I think you could tuck it between the spare tire well and the rear exposing the bottom 1/3 or so of the muffler. I would get it mounted then run the exhaust up to the right side of it and just run a clean 90 deg elbow dump out the left side that you wouldn't see, to keep it nice and clean.
-
Oh yeah that might look quite cool not seeing any tailpipe at all! My buddy showed me some weldable corrugated exhaust flexi pipe that you can buy in meter lengths now so that would install hella lot easier.
-
Yes, but the life of the flex pipe is not very long. I use flex pipe for my first down pipe and I got about 6-8 months out of it. I would use it for a temporary thing but not for long term.
I think a angled back and downward facing slant tip would be perfect, should tuck up and not get any fumes in the cabin. And you should not see it from the rear at all. all you would see is nice polished SS can :)
-
I know the stuff your talking about like the mesh weave structure this I think is different?! still wouldn't use this as downpipe mind, but mid to rear it should do as a few exhaust centres are now using this product just for pure ease of custom BB setups.
-
hmm I havent seen that stuff before. Looks like a sewer line for an RV :)
I think if it is cheap enough it worth a go. those ribs should help cut down on sound a bit too I would think.
-
Haha yes reminds me of vacuum cleaner hose, its £25 per mtr in 2.25" certainly cheaper than a whole bunch or elbows.
Youre right designed to absorb sound and vibration.
-
Had this poly. Civic rear lip in my Garage for a couple of years now and never really tried to fit it properly, but today as part
of the exhaust backbox upgrade I thought I would try again and it turned out Ok, needs a bit of tweaking as it looks a bit wonky bit of persuasion needed with the hairdryer sure will be ok.
but I'm well happy with it, needs some proper flush fixings but it now means I can try for a diffuser and maybe oval tailpipes each side like bit like the miata.
-
Thats a very nice fit
If you want exhausts / rear box I maybe having a sell off soon
-
Sweet! Love that lip man.
-
Snug as a Bug keith! Its cool mate I got a few custom ideas to follow up on.
Cheers Jay, thinking now it might be of the front of a 96-98 Civic but it was so
long ago I bought it now I'm not quite sure :?

I knew it all along was just trying to put you all off the scent :imout: ;)
-
So the backbox idea upgrade has escalated as things usually do,lol into trying to fit a crossflow silencer now to the rear!
So it would look a little something like this: 1 In / 2 out cardboard mock up.
Only thing holding it back is if there is enough room behind the bumper to squeeze an oval box in?!
Raining right now so I cant get out there and rip the bumper off an take out the reinforcement bar to see, if it does fit though we could be looking at dual side exit pipes!!!! TVR Sagaris style :shock:EDIT > Took the bumper off this morning and made some space and it would seem that its going to fit, also straightened up the rear lip which fits even better now.
-
Mid section split open yesterday just where it joins the silencer (not scraped just original so wear and tear) so new one bought today, very tempted to cut & weld a new straight section in there where the silencer is! Bbbrbrbrbrwwwarp…..
-
I think to get it lower you should remove all the exhaust and custom make one using an mx5 crossflow manifold and chuck it out through the inner and outer wing :bigok:
-
That's too extreme, even for me Keith :bigok: Wouldn't mind doing that to a street rod though  with the obligatory flamer kit
