Sam's Proper MX-3 - LT Turbo project *Parting out*

  • Ok so tack welding nuts onto the sump an using m10x10
bolts to attach seems to have worked a treat
    :D

Still need to make up a quick bung for the turbo oil return,
then I can fit it along with a new filter and some new oil :)
and….a new alt. belt which snapped on me last night, made it home though :)
might aswell do the PS belt to now.

  • @6799a89e8e=youdirtyfox:

Fate dealt me an unlucky blow today, well actually it was the wind that blew the old bath tub over…
!@"* it I hope the bodyshop can ping this out...

Holy crap dude! £300! Surely you could get a wing for about 10% of that! I know the wings are weak as f*** on these, when I replaced mine on Bert all it took was a slight flick to damage it. Still waiting on some baller camber ;)

  • Yeah tell me about it I could buy a whole car for that! They are a very good bodyshop though if a little on the expensive side He said the wing would have to come of to be reshaped and filled then painted and oven treated so I reckon it would of have been a comprehensive job, but fuck that I got a decent SH wing sitting here for 20 quid delivered :)

Some neggy camber would be essential if I went for 9J rear's & 8J 0ET on the fronts

  • New alt. & PS belts fitted so back on the road for monday!
Bit fuct off though as the sump I put the sump guard on seems
way too long to fit my engine:( must of come of a 1800 BPT?! So if anybody needs one let me know…

Had a little guerilla photoshoot whith another MX I found on the island!
after going for a test drive to check the belts..

  • Slammed the rear down!

using the "25 boxes of bathroom tiles" method…

  • its like two siamese fighting fish in a staring contest.

you should have asked to swap front wings as other mx looks dented up anyhow.

  • Haha yeah it does should of got a bit closer really :D

It was just a quick shot so didn't have time to speak to the fella…

I have got a wing sitting here though ready to go on :)

  • The aftermath from yesterday!

New tryes and camber bolts in order.. so Rusty you shouldn't have to wait too much longer for some neggy ;)

  • Ok to keep the ball rolling have purchased another sump to fit up with a skid plate and
also this 1/2" high flow hosetail with a 1/4" BSP thread to be tapped into the sump with a
locking collar behind it for the Turbo oil return.

Also ordered J-power front forged carbon camber bolt kit so Im hoping it will work on the rears too.

  • @1fca713de7=youdirtyfox:

This I like to hear and can't wait to see  I'm after some super low coil overs (with comfort damping) for mine as I can't stand the ride on the sleeves anymore and they come with adjustable camber :D I also still need to roo the arches as I'm sick of hearing the tyres getting tortured by the wings

  • Yeah I did wonder how good those sleeves would be for the roads. Had no issues with the XYZ's at all :D Will set the rears to medium when I'm doing the mount flip along with the bolts as there are on softest setting right now unlike the fronts!

    Get 'em rolled Brother

  • They're not too bad for a quick fix but for long journeys there are a no-no  or living where I do. Saying that, I did manage to get up an un tarmaced farm track the other day when I had to pick the dog up (granted I was only going 0.5mph but it got there

They say that coilies are no better for comfort wise but better in the long run for adjustability and longevity (which is an obvious statement).

How's this turbo conversion going of yours by the way?

  • I can only vouch for the super sport kit that I have, yeah they are stiff but the ride is good and not uncomfortable at all. Have done many a 7hr round trip journey with them now so long journeys are not a problem.

Yeah Turboing is still in the pipeline but I would like to get my engine in tip top condition before strapping on the main boosting parts! So a full service is needed really, including valve stem oil seals as it's a bit smoky when left standing for a while, this time next year it might be finished

That is if I stick with the same chassis, as you know aswell as me how much an issue the red fade of death is :(

Yes, this is a massive issue only a respray with ultra thick lacquer would solve (seriously you think you've got issues, Honda must only use water colours on all there paints! I can sneeze and lose paint!) Stick with the red, it looks good bud, I've taken pictures of my car and seen them on the computer and gone "Wow! It's RED, when?" haha, if it looks good online or in a picture, who cares? (Oh, well, apart from our good selves).

  • Haha yeah your right the camera can lie for sure! Probably will stick with Red now as its cheaper and easier to get done again, The wife likes it and thinks it looks quite lairy! means mo moneyz for new wheelz :D Might have to lose the pink and pick something that goes better with red though?!

  • What plans have you got interior wise Foxy? I haven't looked back to see what you've got going on in there but I think a full leather re-trim would be a nice touch with a splash of carbon panels?

  • Only thing going on so far is green dials and RX-7 FD steering wheel, have been looking at FD seats recenlty too though as there only 100 quid a pair for minters. Thinking FD velour seats maybe trimmed in red as they seem to have a carbon effect middle panel. As tbh leather seats in cars really isn't my bag baby, dont mind a bit of leather on the door cards or dash though :D or I might go back to reclining buckets but not use harnesses this time as there a right pita for DD

Should of just bought an FD :imout:

Nooooo Nooo Nooo, have a few friends with FD and FC's and they are nothing but a ball ache. Do you know on the FC the thermostat is part of the block so if it pops it's a hefty welding and expensive job, I love Rex's but I'd never have one (even if I could afford to run one!). Like the sound of the seat plans though, have you typed "stanced MX3" into google images yet :respect:

  • Also you can't judge one set of coilovers against all others.

They are not all the same, on some you can set the damp/rebound rate independantly to be as soft or hard as you like and get different springs to match the damp rate you are planning to run.

On my rally car which was on bilstein coilovers we had it setup so you could do 70mph down a bumpy farm track and you would hardly feel the bumps it felt like it was floating. The wheels would be bouncing up and down at an incredible rate but the car would hardly move. Its all about buying the right bit of kit and getting it setup properly for what you want to do.
