Sam's Proper MX-3 - LT Turbo project *Parting out*

  • Ok so here's what I'm working on next. Putting a skid plate onto this the 323 sump to be able to go a bit lower and not have to worry about busting the pan, added bonus being this sump is baffled and has the return for the turbo oil feed, anyone know what the other union on the other side of the sump is for?

  • Took the pan into work this morning to cleaned it all up with paraffin
and the airline, pretty nice inside considering when I picked it up it been outside!

So this is the proposed guard mocked in cardboard and I will start the real thing next week
at work made from 2mm stainless steel or Titanium if I can get hold of some…. shooting white sparks anyone?!
Plan is to tack weld 4 nuts to the sump then attach the guard using M10 x 10 bolts as I dont trust our polish welder not to put holes through as he just loves using to much heat!

  • You seem to do a lot of your own work at work lol.
Or do you own the company :)

  • Yarp I have a bad rep. for doing lots of "homework"
always in my own time (lunchbreak) of course

No dont own it, but the Boss is pretty cool and a big petrolhead himself so he dont mind too much if you want to make stuff. I think the company started after the boss started making hotrod parts in his owntime, we do alot of work for Weber (trumpets) and janspeed (exhaust cones etc) so alot of it is geared towards motors aswell as aeropsace.

  • Fate dealt me an unlucky blow today, well actually it was the wind that blew the old bath tub over…
Fuck it I hope the bodyshop can ping this out...

  • Oh dear :( Ya might get lucky with that though, doesn't look like any paint damage.

  • Only a slight chip just above the tyre writing thankfully! Having to put on a new wing and get it rolled and flared again would be a right pisser, so fingers crossed..

  • Well the bodyshop wanted 300 quid at first to fix it!! managed to get him to 200 without flashing it in, but it'll work out to 70 quid to get a second hand arch and get it rerolled so that looks to be the way forward at the moment…

  • there was a good red one in silverlakes before xmas, dunno if they still have it

  • Chjeers keith I will have a ring around tomorrow there are a couple on ebay already removed but I cant see if there going tio be lacquer failed from the pictures.. You ever done wing removal? cant find nowt on the search!

  • Would ya have to get the replacement one colour matched tho? That'd be the only thing I'd be worried about!

Theres a red v6 one for sale over here for €250, just come over and buy that :P

  • Not if its a slightly faded red one I wont, it will fit right in,lol

Still on the look out for that elusive minty white 1600 that dont exist :?

Very kind offer there mate. I did ring Him it does sound very straight with good bodywork, has a blow in the exhaust and the odometer has stopped working but with 96,000kilometers on the clock that is a bit of a bargain! However all that said I think its better the devil you know and all that with no NCT and the sums just add upto almost the outlay of getting this one resprayed white…

  • Ah I thought it had an NCT. Did you guys talk price at all? Tempted to go have a look at it myself, if I can get it cheap enough! Body sounds straighter than the silver one I picked up.

  • Didn't get a definate figure but said He would be willing to drop the price a bit
as the 'zorst and odemeter problems, would be a good bargaining tool fo sure.

  • Been up there for feckin' ages too! 200 yoyos maybe? :D Sorry for the Off Topicness

  • Na bother :D Did honestly sound surprised that someone actually rang Him about the car! :D
