Sam's Proper MX-3 - LT Turbo project *Parting out*
-
I want to sort something out as I can still see daylight underneath the car and I cant go any lower! It would be crippling as I dont think I would make it out the drive hahaha
-
hi mate, im new to the forum and just read the whole thread
really impressed with your work on the car. definately gave me some ideas for when i pick my mx3 up next week

Hi jamie, welcome along!
Thanks for the comments, feel free to copy anything that you see that you like, or just use them as ideas and put your own spin on things.
That is what forums are all about, look forward to seeing your '3 and what you come up with :)Ok been thinking about the skirts again and it will probably be easier to make up something like this in aluminium if the mini side skirt are to difficult to intergrate
Think im on for these skirts now after another little 'shop session with the wing tips

So this morning I learnt you can't mount the washer jets in the wiper cowl!
they shoot way up to high right up over the roof onto the boot
Will have to sort out some kind of wiper spray bar now so I can delete the bonnet jets.Took the oppurtunity though to change over the manky clear 4mm ID hose and replaced with the obligatory lime green silicon stuff, also put inline a one way check valve to keep the water at the jets, so theres no lag now from pressing the stalk to actually getting water onto the screen.
-
Didn't the pug 406 have washers built into the wipers ?
-
Yes they did have a spray bar system I believe along with the citreon XM I would expect too, or there are the Aeroflats with 5 built in jets per blade… little pricey though.
Just looked and found 18" & 22" washer jet wiper blades(conventional) for twenty quid a pair from here :http://www.wiperblades4u.co.uk/Car-Specific-FRONT-Washer-Jet-Wiper-Blades/
-
My carbon bonnet doesnt have them so i have had to fit universal jets on a 20mm stalk so they clear the wipers to spray the screen, not ideal but works fine
-
Thats a nifty solution! Think I'm going to take a punt on the washer jet wiper blades. Somehow prefer the look of the oldskool wiper blades, those aeroflats are quite bulbous in the centre.
-
these were the ones
http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/190587603289?ssPageName=STRK:MEWNX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1439.l2649
they are meant to be replacements for land rovers but work perfectly from in the wiper tray
-
Ha never seen ones like that before! Will post up the results of the wiper jets.
-
…So in the meantime! F1 inspired yellow tyre pen in effect :D
-
Whilst waiting for the wipers to arrive I changed up alot of spaghetti junction
for the same 4mm ID hose that I used for the washer jets… lucky that!
Also chnged out the green translucent top hose as it wasnt translucent anymore,
went too soft for my liking under heat and had split under the
hose clamp. Topped up with antifeeze also.
-
The wiper blades pitched up late afternoon so didnt manage to complete
the full install but they do fit! and the hose attachment sits nicely under the arm.
I think they look pretty damn good too! Just got to run some lines
down the arm into the scuttle panel and T up to the main pump hose.
-
You have lossed the exact same scuttle panel bung that I lossed !, think it's fairly common. Unless you've just taken them off for now :)
Wipers look good also.
-
Nope its been like that since I got Her. I need a whole new one now though since its got multiple holes drilled into it
Well pleased with the wipers, lets hope they pump good too will find out tommorow :D
-
So went down the hardware shop this morning to bag some 3mm clear tube for the wiper arms, worth noting not 4mm as the washer pump hose is so had to heat up the 3mm tube in boiling water to get it onto the T connector.
Ran the clear lines down under the arms and into the scuttle panel to T into the main hose and attached the lines with zip ties.
And they work! really well five jets on each blade spray direct at the screen.
Plus you dont really notice the pipes under the arms if done in clear hose.
I would seriously recommend this mod. if you want delete the bonnet jets or your fitting a carbon bonnet etc.. :D
-
Right I have taken a bit of a gamble here! Changed the brake servo assist hose for some Feser UV green PC coolant hose> 10mm ID / 13mm OD.
Has a breaking stress of 100bar, but I dont know about expansion/crushing under vacuum.. will have to see?!GT skirts on order also.
-
The risks you take for some green eh!
Did you fit the valve into it? Let's you maintain some vacuum for assisted braking power if the engine cuts out.
Good job on the wipers, wish I'd done that before drilling my CF!
-
For real…The gamble never paid off the hose sucked itself flat!
The guys who made all my other silicon green hoses can produce one but it will be a one off = £££. I could do it in straight section with some elbows but might look a bit poop.
Not aware there was a valve tbh. One way valve in the hose somewhere?
Wipers are cool cheers mate but means I have to pay over the odds for blades now, but meh :)
-
simple way to keep that green hose round is put a long spring inside it like a pipe bending spring, they cost a couple of pounds and it sorts all the bends out, I am in the process of tracing some so my difficult pipes with hard bends stay round when forced into shape
