Sam's Proper MX-3 - LT Turbo project *Parting out*

  • Looking good fella…

Will look immense with a FMIC poking out behind the grill!!!

  • Tidy. Very tidy indeed.

  • now that looks well great work
and that extra splitter finnishes it of keep up the good work

have you thought of some smooth side skirts

  • Funnily enough, yes I have been!

If thers enough of the plastic
I used for the splitter I would like
to make something like this Rx7
    has > Feed underskirts.

  • Alright folks, next mod up is these 25mm wheel spacers
    I bought off ebay.usa,
    http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=250736927618&viewitem=

    bit of an unkown comodity
as the bore size wasnt right, but luckily enough
a 67.1 > 54.1 spigot ring fits right in there and should
do a good job of centralizing the spacer on the hub.

The finish on the rear face of them is terrible though!
I would never let machined parts go out like that…

  • Nice job, I had my doubts, but fitted on car looks A1 8)

Wheelspacers on the rear for this application… OK... barely.

On the front? Of a turbo FWD car? Don't do it. Your handling will be buggered, the torque steer will be nasty, and don't start me on bearing loading.

Pushing the centre of the tyre contact patch outboard any more than 10mm on a FWD car is a recipe for disaster. Spacers are hateful devices, purely made for Barry aestethics.

If you want to push the tyre edge out 25mm, do it right - buy an alloy with the same ET offset, but is 2 inches wider than your current wheel. It is my (currently untested) belief that the MX-3 can cope with an 8" rim all around with an appropriate tyre (225, possibly 235). If you really have to, I'd increase the stock ET by no more than 10. If you're increasing the rolling diameter of the tyre, then you can go a little more, but you'll soon create a foul somewhere and have to be very careful.

Someone here will surely tell you the envelope they have pushed to - there are a number of 17 (and 18"?) rim users here, I believe?

I'll let you know soon bud, my new wheels are 8 inch wide

  • Ive used spacers before Venari so no offence,
but Ive heard it all before.

I'll let you both know tommorow if your arches need rolling!

  • The results are in! :D

    With an 8J rim ( mine are 7J rim 195/50/15 tyre with an et35 & 25mm spacer)

you are outside the arch without some negative camber.

and only just in with some negative camber.

So without some stretched tyres, negative camber or arch rolling
the tread will probably be outside the arch with a 8j rim, wich is an MOT fail!

  • Needs more Camber

    Looks good tho!!!

  • @7768a75aa2=HammyGlos:

I'd go more lower before thinking about camber, the wheels need to be tucked right into the arches for the camber+stretch look to work.

  • How much lower can your car go? Was it 3 turns you did on the coilies?

  • @c6f7dd4e5d=HammyGlos:

Ive probably got about another 30-40mm to play with lowering wise.
Do not want to bottom out my coilovers though,
and any more lower is going to become a bit impractical for a daily driver,
    but would look nutty 8)

Not sure Im bang into the broken suspension look though,
sure going to hammer the tyres in no time…

Going to look into arch rolling or turning the spacers back a bit :D

  • I wish i could afford Coilies….

I'd love to go way low!!!

btw. bases are in the post bud!!

  • One day I will fully deck it, for the track :D

Thanks dude, gimme something else to tinker on

Right result on the rear set of spacers, its just in
    at the top 8)

Taken the front ones off for now till I decide what to
    do about them

  • 7J rim (ET35) +25mm spacer is the same as a 9J rim (ET35), not an 8J. ;)

Stock V6 rims are 6JJ x 15 ET45 as far as I can tell from the intershizzle.

  • Yes. Im using 7 inch wide rim + 25mm spacer wich is imitating an 8inch rim.

  • car looks sik ! fmic behind that grill ! also projector lights like SstennizZ

    what u fink ?
