KLZE/DE cams
-
Just a quick one guys.
Anybody know if putting ZE or DE cams into a K8 would make any difference
(a good difference now, not a rocker cover blowing through my bonnet difference!)
-
Good idea but don't think you'll be too impressed with the results, If you were going to all that effort to cam a k8 I'd get colt cams. May aswell turbo it ;)
Here's the specs from mx-3.com

hmm, colt cams you say?
where and how much??!!
-
I would try local scrap yards at first you might get lucky, but failing that i would google colt owners forum and search there for sale items.
-
wow, hold up a sec!
are we talking about a mitsu colt?
i thought it was some kind of manufacturer i hadn't heard of!!
so is it just standard colt cams??

I presumed he meant mitsu colt cams as i have never heard of a company called colt,

lol nope not shitsu colt cams I'm afraid!
Goto that website, then go to:
Domestic
Ford
Ford Probe GT 2.5 v6$400 for very aggressive cams. They do various grinds for different extremes for NA and turbo grinds.

if any of the mods read this, maybe they should change me back to newbie!
cheers for the info lads!
-
do you reckon the j-spec cams would make much difference?
i dont wanna go overboard with this?
or do i?!

LOL what a noob
-
im new to the v6!!
i've been driving the 1.6 for the last 6 months! i know very little about the 6 pot
thanks for the compassion!
but ye, wat a noob!
-
I think mechanic was calling himself a noob  Which is fair enough :P
I'm not sure how much gain you'll see, and whether your ECU will be happy about it. Colt say anything about it? Wouldn't be my first route to more power. You could put that towards klDE/ZE or a turbo kit ;)
-
oh jesus, i just keep digging!!!!
the other thing is that i dont wanna put too much strain on the motor, it has 138k miles on it.
i suppose i still have to whack in the cai and decents plugs and leads.
maybe those, thermo spacers, UDP and a manifold will make enough difference to keep me happy.
did u find much difference after the udp?
-
another stupid question.
how far are you able to go, as in taking parts out, without having to need to re-do the timing belt?
can you take valves out?
-
Not very far at all! The timing belt goes around the cams sprockets. Anything of interest sits under the cams :( Which means the belt has come off the cam sprockets.
VALVE COVER REMOVED
Valve cover gasket…CAMS REMOVED
Valve seals
Valve springs
Valve retainers
Valve collets
HLAs (equivalent to tappets)HEADS REMOVED
Valves
Head gasketThermo spacers just take the intake manifold off.
UDP take the crank pulley off (+slacken power steering/alt/water pump belta)The UDP gain was noticable, but not as much as a lightened flywheel ;)
-
Thermo spacers….......
Did they make much difference? Or did you install them before you fitted the engine?
-
cheers for that marco!
that is a pretty comprhensive list!!
did you do the timing yourself or get it done at a garage?
-
Sorry mechanic, forgot to reply to that post… I installed them during my engine build, I'm convinced they work, just seems like they would! I'll measure my IM temp after idleing for 5 mins then you measure yours ;)
Yea Stephen, I did all the work myself, the timings easy enough when the engines out (well mine is running lol) But if you're doing it with the engine in, it gets a bit trickier due to our rediculousy tight engine bay.
