HT Lead Plug to Disty order

  • admin

I have a feeling that my ht leads are not in the correct order, which would explain some seriously bad running lately!

    I know the block order

    135
    246

But can anyone confirm the order to the disty… (ive looked at the numbering and it goes to different numbers so I just want to confirm this)

Some pics to refer to would be great :)

Thanks for that, I did have a look at this earlier, however I noticed that the numbers on the pic (disty) dont match up with the moulded numbers on my disty (I have 3 disty caps and they are all identical)

I will check this in the morning, but im gona re-do the wires after work… hopefully it will run better again!!

    I hate ignition issues lol

  • I can confirm the ones going to the engine are right, as for the distributor i just went of what the numbers said on the cap :?

  • haha yea I've always went with what's on the cap! I'd be shocked if that was wrong all this time, but happy at some regained power

There are two types of dissy, with two different caps.

By the looks of it the early 93 & late 94 have different caps!

    Im gonna stick with:

    135
    246

On the engine and follow the numbers on the cap!

  • Your plug order might have been good in the first place. You might have oil in the plugs causing a similar missfire. I had that. Try pulling your plugs and take a look see. If I don't use my car for a few weeks the oil comes back but if I drive regular it keeps it at bay. Had a look at my front rocker gasket last night. The bit round the out side and round the plug holes is as you would expect but the bit that joins the holes together is raised off the metal. Not sure if its meant to be or if heat has caused this. This might even be letting oil in mine. Chances are its the valve seals though.

I never got loads of smoke either only when I swapped plugs did I notice. Im considering a future upgrade, getting Bosch super four plugs for that extra spark. Used to be pricey but spotted some on ebay for £16 for the 6. I paid nearly that for standard plugs and when I put these in my nova years ago I could swear it made it more responsive. I eventually put splitfire tripple platinum plugs and splitfire duel core leads on there and that definately made it noticably faster. The leads cost over ton for the 4 so I imagine 6 of them would brake the bank.

Yeah, i dont think its the plus as they are brand new as are the leads!! I also replaced the rocker cover seals!!

I suspect now that my issue lyes either with the 02 sensors or a bad Inlet Manifold Gasket!!

  • hmm spray some flammable aerosol - like carb cleaner around the IM and see if the revs pick up- if so there's a leak. Also check for fault codes. Or maybe it's just pissed off with your k8 ecu

Lol…. that is a strong possibility!! But I have no way of testing that :(

No codes which is bad lol cos that doesnt help me!

Good idea with the aerosol.. I will try that!!
