What is this near the alternator?

i noticed when i was doing some cleening that my alternator had a strange and pointless metal and rubber part attached to it. the part was loose too. i then noticed that the mount bolt that holds it all together was loose. ive done the bolt up but the strange useless part could move thru about 45 degrees when loose.
strange part pointed at….
so what is this for?

probely jsut part of the bracket, or its for engine movement in some way :?

I don't think I have ever seen that part before on any US mx-3's :shock:

I'm sorry to report but it seems as though your car has a growth on the alternator… I'm sorry I'm not sure what your mx-3 has gotten into :? but there is no cure for that disease :o

ive been trying to kill it since i got it, theese v6s are tough!

the V6's are tough, i tried killing a V6 2L 323, it never worked, it still worked as good as a new car with worn thrust washers would :lol:

actually as I was working on my slow car yesterday I noticed my alternator DOES have that piece… although mine is pushed almost all the way forward towards the fans... still not sure what it does though :roll:

yea if i loosen the alternator bolt it comes forward about 45 degrees but touches nothing????? cheers for the help tho, :D

maybe reduces resonance or stops it bumping off the engine? no mention of it in the manual.. Why did you have to this, I feel like I need to know now! :P
