Ground Wiring Kits

Been looking at getting one, just to help out generally, but how are they fitted? Daft as this may sound do the wires simply replace the existing ground wires to the car or do they collectively ground through the battery or what?
Anyone got a diagram with one in a car or anything that seasier to see than to read?!?!?!

you can check the ground leads by testing the resistance in the wires. all you need is a multimeter. my main ground wire from the chassis to the battery was 20 ohms, i made a new wire with new crimps that was 0 ohms.
