Cleaning inlet manifold
-
I would like to clean the inlet manifold exterior as mines is ingrained with dirt also just give the engine bay a fresh appearance by cleaning up excess dirt. I know the inlet manifold is cast and a rough surface not very smooth, can anyone suggest such a product to clean this and the engine bay please?

Petrol or paraffin is a good degreasent and so is carb/choke cleaner with a brillo pad or an abrasive wheel in a drill will save some elbow grease.
edit> wear some nitrile gloves if using petrol or paraffin as they will give you dermatitis!

I brought 99p washing up gloves but petrol does eat through them after a hour!.

brake cleaner is great for that and doesnt leave a residue like petrol

Paraffin will balloon and stretch a latex glove in minutes! Think garden centres sell nitrile gloves nowadays.

All of the above will work but i'd suggest you soak it for an hour or two if possible in parrafin and give it a good scrub with an old toothbrush. Be sure to give it a good clean after with washing up liquid in hot water to remove any grease film left then rinse it with plenty of fresh water. It would then be ready to give it a coat of paint if the urge overcomes you.
