Air bag removal
-
Hi all, I am removing the airbag very soon and need to know what to do with the warning light, I am guessing you join the cables together and a resistor fitted inbetween to keep the light off
Thanks in advance

Where is your warning light then ?
I had mine on steering wheel so didn't matter when I removed my air bag wheel.
also it's a nice touch to change sun visor for one without all the air bag info on also.

my old one had that flashy red led in the steering wheel. i thought it was an immobilizer light haha

haha yeah could be although I dont have fobbed key or siren installed.
If there is a light on the dash just take the bulb out ;) I dont even think I can see my EM light through the new guages anyway!

Yes it's definitely a air bag led. There's nothing on the dash that I know of.

Great news!
and with the clock spring Keith for the horn to work, remove the front of it, take out the flat cord wire, cut the plug off the front, recoil it all again and poke the bare wire for the horn through the cut off plug hole so it touches the silver/copper ring on the back of your RX7 steering wheel boss.

Thanks sam, just starting to build up to work on the car again as the ground starts to warm up again

**Just so you know, this is now illegal.
Changes for the MOT for 2012 include:
5.4.1 - As far as practicable, check that all airbags fitted as original equipment are present and not obviously defective. (Failure: An airbag obviously missing or defective)
5.4.2 - Turn on the ignition and check the presence and operation of any Supplementary Restraint System (SRS) malfunction indicator lamp(s) (MIL). (Failure: A Supplementary Restraint System (SRS) malfunction indicator lamp: Inoperative; Indicating a system malfunction.)If your airbag is missing, it's a fail. If your SRS lamp is missing, it's a fail. If your SRS lamp doesn't come on with the ignition, it's a fail. If your SRS lamp doesn't turn off when the system check finishes, it's a fail.
That also means that if you change it for the MOT and then change it back again and are tugged driving around like that, you'll fail on roadworthiness.
There are a significant number of really restrictive changes for the 2012 MOT and I fear a lot of you are in for some very, very nasty and expensive surprises.**

The air bag light is on the wheel direct. There is no indication lights on the dash at all. I removed the warning signs off the drivers sun visor. The only thing I haven't removed is the fuse. I'm 99 percent sure I will have trouble passing. As the car comes in air bag and non air bag variants not age related there is no way to tell. Obviously if I was to remove the air bag off my ford focus for example im sure they would notice. I'd bet a £5 on it the mx3 would slip under the radar. !!.

Ahrr gee shucks thanks DAD :P
Like said though how are they going to know?

There's always blind eye garages that will always exist.
There's no way they are going to be able to police all the mot changes.
They would have to clamp down on all mot garages and equipment to get it to run by the book.
