Strange braking problem

Hi all
I've got an odd problem with my brakes and i'm hoping someone can shed some light on it lol !!
For a few months ive had noisy brakes,the normal grinding sound you get when you brake and they need replacing….so i bought new pads all over and for a few weeks the sound was gone , but now its back!! it seems to be mainly from the back ones and i'm feeling a lot of juddering from them,especially when i brake for a long distance. I got new tyres fitted today and had one of the mechanics look at them and apart from moderate wear on the discs they seem to be fine.....so i'm confused !!!!

didnt you change the discs as well?? Could be the discs are warped, and adding the new pads will have worn the pads unevenly again?
also, double check the disc guard isnt touching the disc….

tbh I didn't even think about changing the discs :oops: is there any easy way to tell if they're warped ? I will get the bf to check the disc guards lol !

well, firstly check how the discs look-any lines/marks? should really be shiny and smooth. next, jack the car up, remove the wheel, spin the disc, take note wether the disc touchs the pads at any point during the turn,,,,
at the same time, check the disc guard, VERY easy to bend this onto the disc and cause noises (happend to me last week after a new caliper fitted, was the LASt thing I checked, after buying a bearing!)
you need to verify the rear brakes are working, again if the discs are shiny then its odds on they are working. I would check your brake fluid too, if its low, get the brakes bled and top up.
Now sure about the juddering though, may be the ABS kicking in, this shouldnt happen under normal braking….
finally, sticky caliper. If the calipers are sticking, well, you will get all sorts of problems and noises. Could be when you are applying the brakes the calipers are acting too slow due to sticking or binding, only way to check properly is to take them off the disc and check the sliders and piston....

i also have very juddery breaks, normally at speeds above 50mph i can feel it quite badly through the pedal but they work well so its just one of the things i have put off. i still stop very quickly so i have just grown to live with it

hmm…to be fair, there shouldnt be any juddering.
Could be abs sensor perhaps, or something else with the discs...

I'm gonna get a friend with tools ! to take the wheel off and check it this weekend,to see if it could be warped discs or the shield…if not then its gonna be a trip to the garage to check the calipers.
I also never thought twice about it until a friend remarked on it ....too used to drowning it out with the sub in the boot lol !!! :roll:

well, when it comes to brakes, dont mess about!
doesnt matter what the car is, brakes should be smooth, and solid, and effective. No wI have my brakes sorted on the MX3, they are TONS better than they were when I first bought it just before xmas last year. Thats one new caliper, new sliders on the other front caliper, new discs front, new pads front, change of brake fluid and bled all round, massive difference.

Check the new pads you have fitted are wearing evenly, it maybe the inside one is slightly angled or is a lot thinner than the outer one, I get juddering on mine every year and I usually replace all the pads and coat all the moving parts on the calipers with copper grease as they like to seize up.
It could be a seized caliper on the back, I have it at the moment and need to unseize them all again :roll:When you changed them did you replace the little metal caps that go on to make the pads sit tight in the caliper ???? or were they so tight you needed a hammer to refit, it could be to do with that too, if they were really tight you will need to clean around the caliper so they arent jammed solid
