Battery draining overnight
-
That sounds like the alternator ed, if the multi meter is reading the same as when its switched off the alternator isnt charging, the voltage should be 14.1v when the alternator is working properly and the engine running, even on the battery terminals it should say 14.1.
If its suddenly gone I would guess the rectifier is kaput
You can either get a used one here or on fleabay or go to just starters & alternators in park gate near fareham and get a recon one, swap it in the car park and get a discount back for the old unithttp://www.jasm.co.uk/ ring them they may have a recon in stock
-
or just go to angels autos in on the link road between yeovil and dorch, they have a v6 mx3 in the far corner to the left of the gate
-
They have 2 at silverlakes near me, gutted you just got shot of the other car too
-
I no its a massive pain having just got shot of all the spares id need.
oh well.
would the alternator being fooked cause the battery drain issue. i no it wouldnt charge up but when i used the car last properly all the electrics were working a ok. lights radio the works no dimming of lights anything.
lastly how hard are they to change? i havent seen a guide anywhere and im kinda crap at all this. :?

Ok small update, again had the battery on charge for a couple of Hrs, went to start car, all positive beeping, clock etc. then turned the key and poof all gone in an instant. starting to think its the starter gone bang.
opinions?
the one upside of this is I saw DJ take one out in all of 5 mins so am thinking it will be easier than the alt. :D

that could be a dead cell in the battery then, any chance of trying another battery that you know is good ( like the missus' fiesta  )
Put that on, if it turns over and starts fine it will be the battery has lost a cell if not, you know its the starter has gone inside and you now need to bump start the missus' car and drive it around to recharge itI bet it is the battery, it seems like the south coast has been EMP'd like black ops lol, on HJC there are loads of people that their batteries have all just gone in the past week, its strange, I have 2 batteries that have gone the same way on the other cars in the drive and the battery on my car had gone too I have had to replace that and the starter.
If it is the starter, remove the air pipes + sensor, undo the battery positive, then disconnet the 2 leads on the starter ( it will spark and short out if you leave battery connected )
Then its just 3 bolts that hold the starter in, undo them and then replace:wink:

didnt read the post properly
alternator is on the front, and I have just doing a how to on how to remove it for you with pictures
-
yeah its definately the alternator, which is a pain in the ass as i just scrapped a perfectly good one.
Oh well, question is… is it worth paying the extra £35 for a recon one or just get one off a scrappy.
A how to would be absolute dynamite, cheers DJ!!!!
