Smoke!
-
Had a good while toying with it today once the rain stopped, I know the manual says dont mess with the stop screw, but I dont care for it since it didnt say please first.
Id recommend it fully, cars is crude on the power, it now just pushes so hard, and still no smoke. Do you remember what fuse it is to reset the ecu cos I hate disconnecting the battery terminals.
Warm car fully then switch ignition off> Remove air intake tubing> Spray carb cleaner all around throttle body and its ports and then clean it up with some lint free cloth and not paper (do this first as doing it after setting TSS and TPS will effect where the throttle plate sits afterwards and undo your settingd)> Refit intake tubing> Diag mode> Start engine> AAS fully wound in> TSS in til engine near dies> AAS out until desired RPM reached> Ignition off and remove air intake tubing> Undo TPS> 0.40mm feeler guage between TSS and linkage> Measure terminals C+D for continuity> Tap TPS around til you get continuity at 0.40mm> remove .40 and insert .50> Test for no continuity> Repeat until continuity at .40 but not at .50> Tighten TPS again> Recheck .40 and .50 continuity hasnt altered while tightening TPS>Refit air intake tubing> Remove from diag mode, start car and enjoy the yummy ness.
Surprisingly, you can wind the engine RIGHT down before it conks out, I got it to that odd mark on the tacho thats just above 0rpm, guessing thats what thats for since it doesnt spec 500 like the other intermediate dashes do and when I got it to that line it on the absolute brink of stalling, engine was thrashing about so harshly in a desperate bid to stay alive that it was making the car shake!

ok, i had a good look around for the smokyness today. i have nipped up the bolts holding the front rocker cover on and removed all oil from the wells again as it was starting to build up. I have checked all air intake pipes for leaks and all vacuum pipes for leaks, all is clear on that front from what i can see. I have removed piping to the throttle body and it was absolutely splattered with oil so i have cleaned that up as much as i can for now, will buy some carb cleaner tomorrow and give it a proper spray out. I have also cleaned the pcv valve properly.
I will let you know if the hesitation and smoke has disapeared tomorrow. I am only posting this now because i was driving back from hospital yesterday, following a rather slow driver and getting quite adgitated with my right foot. everytime i let it overrun and booted it up behind him again i would get some SERIOUS smoke from the back. it is starting to worry me a bit. Is there anything else anyone can suggest? that whole ECU post from jesta sounds rather complicated
-
is it worth changing the plugs as they may not be working to thier full potential?
-
thats not about the ecu, thats the throttle body, tps, tss and aas. If you coming to yeovil again in the next few weeks, bring me a cold can of relentless and Ill do it for you ;)
Another thing, hows your air filter? Blocked air filters are no good
-
i have an after market one on there and it was new, i never used it before i put it on this car. we may be up that way sooner than expected bud but for the life of me, i cant remember why pmsl! think i will ask the misses when she wakes up
-
Im still in yeovil for these coming 3 weeks, after that I move house, the weekend of 17th and 18th Sept is moving weekend, I could do it after that but cant do it on that weekend.
-
did you find out when/why your coming back up here?
-
no i cant remember at all. but what i can tell you is,
i changed my spark plugs yesterday as the old ones looked pretty coroded and i cleaned the inside of the throttle body. it now starts better but still smokes. I thought the hesitation was fixed until a 306 rallye tried to burn me off, and succeeded as i bogged down again. I am running out of ideas now. I know i have a leak in my exhaust and the CAT is on its way but surely that would not cause that much smoke and hesitation
-
drive up here today and lets have a look, what part of your exhaust is leaking? I have a spare cat (im decat) and an excellent condition centre pipe/cat back
-
whats your fuel consumption like?
-
i would mate but funds are pretty low at the moment. kinda glad i didnt win those springs lol I havent looked at where its leaking yet but will have a good look around in a bit
-
oh and fuel consumption has turned pretty drastic over the past few days
-
So your gonna keep driving even though your fuel consumption sucks? If you set off now youll be here by lunch
Do you need those exhaust bits?
-
well i still havent checked which bit is leaking yet but may have teh CAT off you in the near future, either that or get a decat made up. unfortunately, due to me having a couple of days sick last week I only have £35 left until next thursday….
-
I dont mind if you want to have them and pay me back in a few weeks, theyre not giving me any money for sitting in the shed, so atleast if they were on your car in the meantime theyd be being useful. Your call
-
if you keep hold of them until next weekend i will give you a definate yes or no but atm £35 wont get me to yeovil and back lol
-
Ok can do.
-
the zorst pipe I has…
-
i cant see where it is leaking from but it is definately leaking. think i need to jack it up and have a proper wiggle about to find it. I think it might be from the back box though which isnt too bad. also instead of buying a decat pipe, should i just knock the internals out of mine and if so, what should i use to do it. the cat is rattly as fook anyway and i would say, from the smell at the back end, it is not doing its job. would it be worth (and sound better) welding a slightly smaller piece of exhaust pipe the same length of the CAT Into the CAT (if you get my drift). luckily I have a backbox that needs to go on anyway which is a stainless one

oh and one more thing, my mechanic thinks the stem seals may be causing the smoke :( I have no idea how to fix this
