Electric Supercharger?
-
Hi folks, does anyone have an opinion on these? They look like a cold air intake kit with a fan in it. Found mixed reviews on the internet so not sure what to make of it.

I still have the original air box in my car. Since I'll be putting in a CAI at some point, would it be better to go with these supercharger things or they just gimmicky products with no merit? :P
Thanks all!

**Yes.
They are an unimaginably huge pile of complete and total narwhal bollocks.**

There was a test using an MX-5 in PPC Magazine this month.. the Supercharger was tested with the fan turned off and turned on… IIRC there was a 2bhp gain with it on .... however.. with a standard cone filter there was an extra 5bhp gain over having the supercharger fitted as it restricted airflow too much.
Or simply put... Waste of money!!!

yeah dont bother bud. i have heard many stories about these types of things. the fan cant spin fast enough to actually increase any hp, and as hammy said, it restricts airflow
-
What about this one? lol. It is the actual intake making this spin and so it can't possibly go faster than the airflow. It is doing nothing but restrict airflow. Must be some dumb peeps out there.

I'll just add that the concept of an electric supercharger isn't bollocks - I know some actual car manufacturers are looking quite seriously (eight figure seriously) into it - but that the ones you can buy here and now are all, without exception or deviation, mouldy man chowder.

That one is based on the idea of dyson vacuums, you get better airflow if its rotating, the blades will be fixed and as it enters it causes the air to rotate

"turbine spins with the engine speed" "friction bearings spin up to 65,000"
Look slike it spins to me. I agree it would have made more sene to spin the air and i have seen fixed ones. Saw a ten minute american add for a fixed on when i was in mexico once but this one seems to spin.

I like the way Famine puts it lol removes any doubt :P thanks all!
The idea sounds good but wondering where the power to spin it fast enough would come from. Guess we'll see once the big companies have got a working product
