Alfa failed its mot

  • the supertouring was a white ltd ed with yellow stickers wasnt it? or am i thinking about another ltd ed vectra, there seem to be bloody loads of them lol.

Well thats it, alfa is all passed now and so damn quiet with that bloody CAT back on :( i miss the RAAR BARB BARB POP BARB RAAAAAAAAR lol.

  • kind of mate yeah it has different wheels in white by imsher tbh it has loads of imsher goodies on it…

you may also be thinking of this aswell which is the btcc version and a calibra...

many had tried to replicate them over the years there are some very fine examples out there also in the vectra they were copied from the dtm series…

  • heres a pic for you of my old calibra its a v6 putting out 210 ish it has the same wheels on it as the veccy supertouring and it sat on coilovers..

  • no i was thinking of this lol

    http://imageshack.us/photo/my-images/12/017ig5.jpg/

with the small ST badges on the side. i never was a fan of the calibra personally. i thought it was kind of a pointless car as they had the fast vectras adn the steady omega's they didnt really need to make the car but its a personel thing i guess lol. there is one thing that has always bugged me about all vauxhalls, the speedo is ghastly and the stalks are far too big.. do you not agree. i like a round speedo rather than a 90 degree one :)

  • 90? you mean a 180 right?

  • Spot on Dan thats the supertouring version,.. one up on mine…
Thats full of all the imsher goodies,.. mind you having said that you can buy all the goodies and put them on the gsi of mine.. you just dont have the all white version then...
The supertouring is a very saught after car as it was only a limited run...something like 500 why iirc it was inspired from the touring car series i500 version..
The gsi had only 3900 of it produced theres no official record of todays numbers but i bet it dvla was to allow it you be suprised at how few there prob is now...

As for the old calibra it was first produced in 1991 up intill 1998 when the last special editon rolled out which was the Se9 of which i had one ..lol..
it was back then Vaushalls only real sports car...

  • @c600d5f559=daniel:

i tried the safety thing on that one but i wasnt allowed it either. i think the GR has 180bhp std and the mivec was 200bhp. still some serious figures from a stock 2.0 V6. ford could barely manage that with a 2.5 V6 (duratec st200) which was several years newer than the first run of FTO's. in fact i dont know many cars that can bragg 200hp from a 2.0 engine, possibly the type R boys but not many.

**It's just revs - torque * revs = power. The problem with the Mitsubishi six is that it is running pretty much at the limit of what can be achieved from it, whereas the K V6s are well within themselves - oversquare to keep them revvy, huge rod/stroke ratio for reliability and no overlap making them ideal for forced induction. There's a guy in the US running a stock KL block and crank in a twin turbo drag car. 1000hp, from the stock block and crank!

Nail together a KL/KF/K8 hybrid and you could see upwards of 250hp from 2.2 litres at 9.5krpm on stock bits (bored slightly) - and it'd sound absolutely nucking futs (and then you could blow it for twice that)… The 6A12 2.0 MIVEC from the FTO is already on its limit at 200hp and there's no other route beyond blowing it for more - by which point you're having to look at forged bits that cost the Earth - and the relatively large overlap makes this less effective than in the K.

We're out of the land of stock vs. stock at that point, but there's always an MX-6 ZE to bring to the party - 200hp at 6500 and 175lbft at 3500 vs 200hp at 7500 and 145lbft at 6500... There's only one winner there and it doesn't have trick cams...**

200bhp from a klze isnt bad thats before you start adding bolt-ons or better mapping, both which if done correctly should bring you to the 250bhp mark. Although i hate to agree honda are good

  • sorry jesta yeah i meant 180 degree lol. long day…

i would love to get another "toy" and KLDE it. I know the ZE is more powerful etc but i think that, for me, i would end up dead if i was to do that. i find it quite hard to back down from a challenge on the roads ;) 170hp would be plenty for me in an mx-3

Likewise, think I read that the DE is an easier swap than the ZE anyway?

For me atleast it seems fruitless, for the money, sourcing, effort, time, problems, troubleshooting, fixing that goes into the KLZE builds, youd be better off just buying a more powerful as standard car, the KLZE mods alone would cost you more than a whole MX3 V6

  • I totally agree, you could buy a ford probe or mx6 uk spec for about £500-£600 swap the engines over and sell the probe or mx6 for £500-£600 lol. all you would pay for would be labour

  • even if you brought an mot failure or write off mx6/probe, the engine should still be good, buy for £2-300, get what you need, then scrap it and get £100 for it.

Its not something Im going to even look into tbh, there are newer, more econimical and yet more powerful cars around, finding a nice styled one is the hardest part, imo the 90's vehicles where the best of style and uniqueness, few cars come with a v6 lump nowadays, I dont even know of any, theres the odd inline 5 or 6, a few v8's but thats about it, of the 90's youve got the MR2 mk2, Scoobaru Impreza, Skyline, Supra, Evo, Celica, Calibra, Omega, MX6, Probe (dont like this car but it isnt a run of the mill car) 350z, FTO, GTO, RX7, 200sx, CRX, and of course the MX3, a whole bunch of undoubtedly cool, unique, stylish and powerful cars. What have we got from 2000 onwards? Theres the odd revamp or update, such as the impreza, but what else? Nothing, sadly most manufacturers have given up on the sports car for the common man, or trying to push the limits of technology of the time to create something unique and awesome and are now just doing your VERY average family/commuter car.

Whod have though that a decade later, the minds behind the Supra, MR2 and the Celica would be churning out Yaris's? Mazda is atleast just staying shy of the same tar brush by having the RX8, but thats not more than a stones throw from the RX7, which was done in the 90's. With this decades worth of cars, Im sorely disappointed, there just isnt anything for a person on a normal wage to aspire to own,. All in all its been a good decade to start a family, cos theres been fk all else to save your money for.

  • Jesta are you forgetting the Mazda 3 and 6 both come with a MPS edition fella putting out 260 bhp and very nicely styled may i add…

a mazda 3mps can be had for as little as 5k now...

  • need to find out about this mps, if its not awesome then it doesnt count :P

  • ok just found that, ok thats pretty tasty, was at the point of thinking Id get one in a few years, then I checked the tax band. £445 a year, nearly fell off my chair!

yep the only drawback i could see too..

Ill stick to older cars thank you very much haha

  • how on earth are they expecting people to buy that? I mean come on now, thats just ridiculous! I guess it aint mazdas fault, more the government, but thats just stupidly priced, I thought the £200 my car costs was pricey lol

  • £200 is cheap jesta. The new range rover V8 petrol… be ready for this....

£900 for the first years tax! Then it goes down to the more managable £445. so, olets say you have just bought one, you then have to get to the post office and fork out another £900 just to drive it anywhere. that is sick!

  • If you can afford to buy a brand new V8 range rover, you can afford to pay £900 to tax it!!
