Alfa failed its mot

  • its a good idea if you dont want them to drive your car. i "tried" to put my misses on my insurance on the alfa and it went from £390 to about £2,200  no claims really do help dont they ;)

  • really that much…

i tried to add my daughter to mine at 1700 but she's under 25 and they eventually said no so i contacted Ecar who sorted her a policy of her own on her own car which i got her for just 700 a year fully comp...Bargin 1k saved ...

  • yeah it was pretty steep but she is 19 next month so may go down a bit (btw im only 24, im not some wierd old guy dating young girls… although i am getting close now pmsl) my next door neighbour is selling a 1.8 fto manual (rare as rocking horse poo) which my misses can insure for about £1500. i think thats a fair price for a rare car like that

Go for it nice motor and from looking recently i know if you want to sell it later youll be good on price then also..

  • its a lovely looking car i have to be honest. in met grey with a real carbon fibre bonnet and a BFOW on the back, and a 5" tailpipe. sounds the muts nuts for a 4pot

  • Mate i wish i could show you sosme pics of an fto i was looking at but the owner wouldnt let me take pics…but ill try my best to describe it imagine this...

its the all singing fto mivec v6 in powder blue met with a full veilside kit in mint condition, engine wise its fully dressed under the bonnet sweet as,.. it really was show condition stunning example mate and he wanted 1200 for it with fmsh and reciepts for everything too..

  • christ thats cheap for a mivec. that sounded lika a pretty good deal there mate. i took a GR out for a test drive and was very impressed with the performance of it. hands down, it would piss a stock mx3 V6 and probably outcorner it aswell. i was in 2nd doing an indicated 80mph (dials were changed from kph to mph so may not be accurate) and that was no where near the redline. amazing things to drive. i think i may have shit the owner up a bit

  • mate like said if only i was allowed to take a few pics it was stunning..std there 200 horses butr this had had work to it so was over the 200 mark..

    wernt allowed it though…

  • i tried the safety thing on that one but i wasnt allowed it either. i think the GR has 180bhp std and the mivec was 200bhp. still some serious figures from a stock 2.0 V6. ford could barely manage that with a 2.5 V6 (duratec st200) which was several years newer than the first run of FTO's. in fact i dont know many cars that can bragg 200hp from a 2.0 engine, possibly the type R boys but not many.

  • all i know fella im back being a member of the 200 bhp club god i missed it…hahahaha rainy's back back again...rainy's back rainy's back...

  • in the mx3 or the vectra? I didnt know the GSI had over 200hp :D

  • btw my mate that had one was signed up to VVOC forum, he was always getting cheap parts on there. just a heads up ;)

  • im a long time vauxhall member of many sites fella had an astra mk3 with a redtop in it tuned to 180…

yeah the gsi msd edition is at the 200 mark fella only topped by the super touring version which had a few extra tweeks..

  • the supertouring was a white ltd ed with yellow stickers wasnt it? or am i thinking about another ltd ed vectra, there seem to be bloody loads of them lol.

Well thats it, alfa is all passed now and so damn quiet with that bloody CAT back on :( i miss the RAAR BARB BARB POP BARB RAAAAAAAAR lol.

  • kind of mate yeah it has different wheels in white by imsher tbh it has loads of imsher goodies on it…

you may also be thinking of this aswell which is the btcc version and a calibra...

many had tried to replicate them over the years there are some very fine examples out there also in the vectra they were copied from the dtm series…

  • heres a pic for you of my old calibra its a v6 putting out 210 ish it has the same wheels on it as the veccy supertouring and it sat on coilovers..

  • no i was thinking of this lol

    http://imageshack.us/photo/my-images/12/017ig5.jpg/

with the small ST badges on the side. i never was a fan of the calibra personally. i thought it was kind of a pointless car as they had the fast vectras adn the steady omega's they didnt really need to make the car but its a personel thing i guess lol. there is one thing that has always bugged me about all vauxhalls, the speedo is ghastly and the stalks are far too big.. do you not agree. i like a round speedo rather than a 90 degree one :)

  • 90? you mean a 180 right?

  • Spot on Dan thats the supertouring version,.. one up on mine…
Thats full of all the imsher goodies,.. mind you having said that you can buy all the goodies and put them on the gsi of mine.. you just dont have the all white version then...
The supertouring is a very saught after car as it was only a limited run...something like 500 why iirc it was inspired from the touring car series i500 version..
The gsi had only 3900 of it produced theres no official record of todays numbers but i bet it dvla was to allow it you be suprised at how few there prob is now...

As for the old calibra it was first produced in 1991 up intill 1998 when the last special editon rolled out which was the Se9 of which i had one ..lol..
it was back then Vaushalls only real sports car...

**It's just revs - torque * revs = power. The problem with the Mitsubishi six is that it is running pretty much at the limit of what can be achieved from it, whereas the K V6s are well within themselves - oversquare to keep them revvy, huge rod/stroke ratio for reliability and no overlap making them ideal for forced induction. There's a guy in the US running a stock KL block and crank in a twin turbo drag car. 1000hp, from the stock block and crank!

Nail together a KL/KF/K8 hybrid and you could see upwards of 250hp from 2.2 litres at 9.5krpm on stock bits (bored slightly) - and it'd sound absolutely nucking futs (and then you could blow it for twice that)… The 6A12 2.0 MIVEC from the FTO is already on its limit at 200hp and there's no other route beyond blowing it for more - by which point you're having to look at forged bits that cost the Earth - and the relatively large overlap makes this less effective than in the K.

We're out of the land of stock vs. stock at that point, but there's always an MX-6 ZE to bring to the party - 200hp at 6500 and 175lbft at 3500 vs 200hp at 7500 and 145lbft at 6500... There's only one winner there and it doesn't have trick cams...**
