Fuel Consumption - What MPG do you get?

  • Shit  That cant be good. I'd get it sorted quick sharp if I was you, it'd be a crying shame if something went horribly wrong on your piece of automotive art.

Also kind of on/off topic I've heard people saying their 3's have warning lights for low petrol but I've never seen one on mine (and I've run it pretty low) Is it a case of Mazda cheaping out on the last run of 3's (1998 R plates) and not installing one or am I just not seeing it?

  • lol, well im just being lazy as im thinkin about an engine conerstion at the mo :p

As for the fuel light… I never thought i had one, but i assure you its there!!!

If you look closely at the fuel gauge, you will see a small circle about 5mm round. Not sure how much the reserve tank is, but the lights definitly there! lol

  • ive red some ware that they have about 12 miles left when the light comes on. a yahoo site i think. as soon as my light comes on i get filled up quick

  • i was previously getting really low mpg but had a quick service when done the gaskets and racing clutch and had a breather pipe blocked now getting a lot more out of here

  • i only got my mx 3 a week ago and well ,love it but…................. how small is the tank !!!!! lol full at £35

  • Two things,

    1. The MX V6 has two VRIS flaps that open when there is sufficient vaccum in the Inlet Manifold due to acceleration or RPM, these flaps open up to allow more air and there are sensors that let the ECU know when these are open and can be set to different RPM with Standalone. The flas being open will burn more fuel so driving easily will make the fuel go much further….

    2. Mazda parts are not the best quality and many of our cars are well over 10 years old now. It is a good idea to change the O2 sensors on the exhaust manifold/s as without these working properly fuel consumption will rise. Manufacturers recomend that they are changed every 25k miles. So ask yourself when yours were last changed? Especially on the V6 which has 2. I need to change mine too 8)

  • i normally get 210-215 to a tank but nearly always run on shell v-power.its 7% more expensive but 10% more efficient. i always run till light on but not for long. i worked out i normally get 3-32mpg. not too bad really but considering i rag the a*** off it most the time not bad. best thing would be a 6th gear as revs run so high. bout 4k at 70mph.not good. how do i add a pic?

  • My cars on 116k and with motorway driving i'll get around 270s. Day to day driving 160-220. Seem to spend my life with that fuel light on! Anyone ever get premium unleaded? I've never noticed much benefit myself.

  • Bit late but thought i'd say, I drive long distance weekly with a combination of A road, motorways and stop start of m25, keeping below about 4500 rpm, i get about 260 a tank. with respect to premium fuels, this has been a big pub discussion between old and new cars, I used to use it and thought i'd gave better milage but after an engine flush and service was told that older cars PREFER 95 ron fuel(standard) after the service it was better. Higher octane will be better until a service,.

  • we should get about 100 miles to a tank when ours is done.

    Easy to do/access?

Did Exeter to Brighton on one tank a while back in mine (all motorway, no traffic, at "average" motorway speed). Thats gotta be about 300 miles. Still had some left. Basically didn't change out of 5th lol!

  • right know its been a while since this post was created. but worked mine out to day after using the car all weekend.

    im getting about 38-40mpg.

i thought omg my working out is wrong so got family to check it and its correct

  • @0c562be94b=Valley:

    im getting about 38-40mpg.

Have you got conveyor belts for roads in Wales?!

Seriously though, any idea why you're getting such good mileage?

  • Jono, correct me if I am wrong, but your running a KLZE on a K08 ecu….Not sure what effects that has, but I bet it has something to do with the lack of mpg.

  • I normally get 30-34mpg city driving in my k8 mx-3. It has 180k on the clock…

I normally get 22-26mpg city driving in my klze mx-3. For trips or highway driving I get about 30-32mpg with the klze (and that's driving pretty fast 100+mph)

I think I posted about that before I installed the ZE so the issue was never investiagted.. I do believe I actually have a better MGP at the moment with my current setup… still waiting for that ECU!!

    Jono

Edit: Yep, I was running the K8 when I posted that back last year :)

  • lol i wish we did. not got clue why im gettin that. filled her up to the top. drove her till was only a quater left. then filled her back up. and used out how much petrol was put in against the milage clocked up…

  • i get about 55mpg in a 1.6

  • I get around 170 to a full tank. I don't know how it's so bad.

  • have you given a full petrol system wash. etc redx injector cleaner. i do mine every 2-3 full tanks
