Underbody protection
-
Does anyone have any suppliers or recommendations for underbody material?
Ideally I'd like the stock plastic qualities:
- heat resistant
- non brittle
- very flexible
- black
I just want to make covers for the underbody to keep dirt out fix that parachute rear spoiler. I'm reluctant to use stainless. I'm considering FG but I can't be assed making a mould and it's pretty brittle.
Thanks for any advice,
Marc

polycarbonate sheet, cheap as hell, easy to cut, but flexible as you like and impossible to crack, it does suffer marking though, but thats the trade off you pay for its flexibily and shatter proof iness acrylic is good for abrasion resistance but brittle, polycarb inst very good for abrasion but cannot be cracked
You wont find a more comprehensive or awesome way to test materials than this vid :)

have you ever worked with polycarbonate sheet? its very easy to crack when cutting in my experience!
acrylic perspex would be a good bet or aluminium?
signmakers should carry allsorts of plastcis

Yes I have, and Ive never had a problem with it cracking. Perhaps in a thick sheet, it might if it where bent far enough, but this application shoot require nothing more than 1-2mm sheet.

Rally cars use poly sheeting all the time. You might want to tuck up the exhaust first though

Thanks for all the input.
Yea the exhaust is as tucked as can be!

Most sign makers use foamex and that is very pliable and flexible but dont know if its fire proof or not, I know you can heat it to reform it

I have an idea, got some stuff from work, was gonna use it to line the inside of my wheel arches over winter to protect from salt, never got round to it though, I reckon this stuff will meet all you criterias
How big do you need the material to be?
