Jay mx3's kl-ze drag car project

its ze heads on de bottem end.. lower compression. the de retainers on ze valve train. so the valves dont drop. id get titanium retainers and 3 angled valve seats if you can.
-
im half way through stripping the klze down and i would like to clean all the block and heads so its all cleand and tidy again its not to bad
dose anyone have any tips on doing this
should be ready for putting back together at the weekendthanks all
:D

ze, k8 and de come with a 3 angle valve job from factory :)
As Jay said use the DE valves, collets and retainers instead of the ZE intake side. The exhaust springs etc are the same as DE.
In the past I've used gunk, followed by a power hose. When I had the heads skimmed they cleaned them too. Autoglym engine cleaner is also pretty good and less awful to work with. Depends how much you're stripping it what you can use. Need to be careful with bearings and water.

Thanks jay and marco ill have a go thanks :D its great to start working on it again feals like im getting some were with it now
-
well another day on the engine
lol
i thought i best post some pics up not much to see realy until its all clean which i started todaythis is roughly how i got it
halfway through stripping apart
heads off and ready to take the valves out (once i got the tool)
at the moment half way through cleaning the outside
and
my shed isnt an ideal place to work but its better than outside lol
-
How much did ya fork out for that ZE, if you don't mind me asking?
Hope it all goes to plan bud!
-
i think the engine was about 500 but i payed alot more because there was alot more bits with it like gear box ecu cluch flywheel and loads of googies too, almost every thing i needed for the swap
-
spotted these and wonded if it would benifit fitting them look good too
few more pics for you all
i borrowed the carbon fibre idea from marco hope you dont mind marco lol
just got this to mach the manifold
and the LSD'ed gearbox is all ready and painted
-
marco bought and sold a batch of those pulleys. Think they are ok if you start doing head & cam work as it will give you fine adjustment. But as oem part will make no difference.
edit just read ebay listing as describes exactely what i put plus more :) .
looking good jay, love the manifold

The bay is gonna look great!

The bay is gonna look great!
:D i might as well clean it all while its all out
-
I'd spend the money elsewhere regarding the pulleys unless you're whacking off a good skim of the heads.
Definitely clean the bay :) also check under the driver side engine bay mount. The one that mounts from the frame rail to the inner wing by the timing belt. It's a bit of a water trap, so check for rust.
-
thanks marco ill check that thanks
the engine bay looks like this so when the engine is in it should look good not to marco's standards but it will do for me lol :D
-
Looks great!
