Engine swaps?
-
It will restrict it and cause it to run rich, although it won't harm it. I had 146bhp with ze bolted to a complete stock 1.8 exhaust system and then after I done manifolds, sports cat, and exhaust went up to 188 bhp. Still got some tuning to do on mine. Mx3 gulf has 190 something on hes. It's not a bad idea if your trying to cut costs and do a gradual project build.
Oh also also alot easier to do cam belt and water pump while engine out so I'd consider that too.
-
thats even better news for me as i am working to a budget. and besides 146hp is more than 130hp so it will make a slight difference with alot more torque until i get a stainless system fitted. i will try and save up for a full system from powerflow with sports cat etc but thats gonna be pretty expensive. as long as i know i can get the engine in and running the rest can wait for a few months. gotta save for an engine or mx6 yet. i would prbably do as you said which was to give my mate the 1.8 mx6 for payment. happy days

Yep. Metal prices are set for an all time high next year along with vat increase not good !.
-
might have to go out robbin old ladies lol. yeah its going up to 20% aint it? the best metal to invest in is gold by far! my partner and i used to buy and sell. our last batch went for over ten pounds per gram!! that was just your cheapy 9ct stuff as well. wish we kept it really cos will be worth alot more soon

sorry i forgot its a car forum haha
-
Just a quick word, DJ's MX6 is a auto so you will need to use gearbox from your car, I think the ECU is different on manuals & autos too, but not 100& certain
-
well m gearbox is fine. still feels tight. i will look into the ecu business. its ok if it is different as i dont exactly have pocketfulls of cash atm. i know i can pick up a probe round here for cheap so not really too bothered. i should get a job before i even think about big mods like this but i cant help myself :-)
-
If the ecus are different, then the vris points won't be the same, so they won't be compatible with each other, when I done KLDE swap, power gain was good  if you can find a cheap probe thats a runner so you can see engine running then go for it, as you will have everything you need on car too, KLZE is more power but you will be looking at least double the price against a KLDE, + I have heard some KLZE's don't put out the alleged 192bhp, mines putting out 196bhp/180lb torque with a decat, stainless headers, lighter mx3 flywheel and uprated HT leads
have a looky
-
just done a bit of research and it looks like an auto ecu will not work on a 5 speed manual gearbox due to the ecu having to know which gear it is in so it can change gears at certain rpm depnding on how hard it is driven. would a KLDE manual ecu work with a ZE engine.
-
i would hae a look but im on my crappy old tytn 2 phone and it doesnt do youtube very well
-
and yeah i can get a probe complete for reasonable money down here in the depths of cornwall. cars are cheap down here
-
For the ze there is two ecu s the kl36 for auto and kl31 manual. Either will run the ze coupled with a manual gearbox. Kl36 will throw out some codes on diagnostic mode as it won't find the auto sensors. there is no engine management light on obd1 so you will never know. However you won't be able to use your 1.8 back in the mx6 with the 1.8 manual ecu to run the mx6 auto box like you said.
I use the kl36 ecu on mine and have no problems with vris points and dyno is pretty smooth.
-
Oh if you got ze engine you could use a chipped de ecu and de vaf. Search for probeinator chip.
-
Did not know you had a kl36 ecu garfy, apologies!! KLDE ecu will run a ZE same as a K8 will too, you just won't get full performance out of engine though
-
No but you can use a de vaf and de ecu get it chipped with even better vris points, improved rev limits and better no 118mph limiter as found on ze ecu.
-
118mph? ive had more than that indicated on my speedo with a blip with a range rover sport. it was indicating 132mph and the wipers were being pushed up the windscreen. so anyway the ze will run with a k8 ecu but will run very rough right?and if i were to buy an mx6 auto would that ecu run with the auto box bolted to the 1.8? sorry for all the questions
-
yep as the ze is from the jdm market it is restricted to 118mph although cutting one wire will remove it!, 1.8 box tops at 146 i think and 2.5 box tops at 155mph.
Anyhow, i cant see why the 1.8 bolted to the auto box wouldnt run the only question is whether the 2.5 ecu would run the 1.8 smoothly, dont think anyone has ever tried a 2.5 ecu in a 1.8 !!!. All the sensors, vaf etc are the same so should run.
Yes the 2.5 ze will run off the 1.8 ecu, you wont feel the full potential of the engine tho.
-
if that is the route i take i will let you know if the ze ecu will run the k8 on an auto box. obviously the ze will not perform as well as it could with a proper ecu but thas fine as i will be doing it in stages. i might wait til its next mot as i doubt the ze would pass emitions on a k8 ecu. thanks again guys really appreciated
-
no mine still fails on emmisions!. Have to kinda use another car to get it to pass!! :D . Good when you know the mot inspector!
-
yeah i will wait til mine passes mot before i do the engine change then lol. then again there are alot of cheappy scrap yards round here s could probably get the ecu for an mx6 for cheap or free if i go to one without cameras. so i would need a kl31 ecu with a manual ze right?
