Tickover problem…!!!!
-
HELP !!! Can anybody suggest a remedy for a V6 with a dodgy tickover. It starts and runs perfect and from cold it ticks over nicely. A few miles later the tickover revs do drop to a normal rate but then a few miles later it starts to struggle to tick over and I have noticed lately that if I am cruisin a steady speed and back off the throttle it goes into a strong 'over-run' type feeling…any ideas anybody and is it common.

does it kangaroo a lot when pulling away now, then if it is its possible you have a crack in your induction pipe, either that or the sensor on the throttle body is playing up, try and get some codes from it

Thankyou, sounds like good advice. Your right its very jerky when setting off. Thanks again

My 3 is doing the same thing except it is not kangarooing. I changed the 3" rubber breather pipe that goes onto the front of the rocker cover as this had a tiny hole in it and this worked for about a week then it started again so i changed all of the others and again this worked for about a week.
Now im running out of ideas and patience :x can anyone help!

You may have a tiny air leak somewhere on that system or even a pipe not tight enough that connects to the induction pipe, you may have to check the whole system, also take the plastic induction pipe right off and then bend it slightly and check all round it could be a very small crack that has developed that you cannot see properly ( but be careful not to snap it in half !! )

Its got a induction kit on it but i had the problem a couple of times befor i fitted the kit, this is why im getting stressed as the problem is intermitent and just wont go away. Is the sensor on the throttle body the big denso device to the left of the opening?

Get a photo on here, is it the original pipe with just an induction end on it or have you replaced everything from the throttle body onwards.
If its just the end and its the original corrugated pipe that is the most likely thing to have a split in it that you cannot see without removing it and it will stay like that until one day it just snaps and the car dies on the spot.
If its the full kit then it may suck in air elsewhere somewhere or the airflow meter is going, if it is the full kit you will need to pull the codes, that means making this

Could also be temp sensor or stepper motor.

Thinking its the stepper motor. Changed the rocker cover gasket and adjusted the idel screw and seems fine again.

This week I have noticed that when engine gets to temperature, I have extreme tappet tap from rear bank and the idle is lumpy… would this be the same issue?
Cheers
