Need advice with Engine Removal without lifting it much?
-
I've the car on medium sized axel stands in my home garage, with all the front suspension components already removed and sent off to be blasted and painted.
Only I now need to remove the bloody engine, its too high to lift out, got any ideas?
Remove front bumper, rad, rad support, drop gearbox down and slide the engine out the gap? Is this possible???

Lower the engine down onto blocks then lift the chassis over it

its hard to move the car, its on stands all round.
Already removed the rear suspension.

you could drop the engine and tranny out the bottom, i have never tried but i know pulling the tranny out the bottom is more of a pain then taking both out the top. rent a engine hoist, it will make it alot easier. even if you drop both you will need something to hold it up while you remove all the mounts and sub frame.

drop the engine onto the floor and slide it out
might have to lift front of car abit higher

Ive done this before, not on an mx-3 but 205, principles the same though i guess!
dropped the front as low as possible so the engine was sitting near on the deck on a pallet (fisrt time i did on gravel drive) undid the top engine mount/gearbox mount and then jacked the car up real high using axle stands on pallets and dragged the engine out underneath the front cross-member, wasnt easy on my own though, if you had a trolley or rollers would make it alot easier shifting the engine out.
