Splutter splutter now dead!
-
well as im sure you all know from my japfest cancellation, ive now got to fix my mx and this is the first time its actually broke down!!. Had it since 2004 i think ??
anyhow, was misfiring on start up, was not too bad on low revs on WOT is spluttered big time and then cut out refusing to start.
Car turns over fine, does not even sound like its trying to fire.
Heres my findings so far.
pulled out all the plugs, all were very loose, prob been in there for two years covered very little mileage. Prob 600 miles. Dont know why they be loose, i dont put them in silly tight!, but dont understand why they be loose ( heat from last track day- last time i used mx )
Plugs were all wet smelt of petrol and were black. cleaned all up temporary.checked vaf incase worm drive clip was stopping it moving correctly, no problem.
As mentioned to rainmaker, the recent mot emmisions test was very high. Well to get it through the mot the test was done using a 106 and not my car lol!!
Also noticed the distributer was loose. There is a nut on the side which allows the distributer to rotate about 10 degress against the engine block. Did tighten this.
Also out of interest there is a small adjustment knob on the side of the distributer. What the hell is this? never noticed this before.Checked flexi pipe on air intake and definately no leaks there. Is like new.
Going to start pulling codes tomorrow, ran out of daylight tonight.
any ideas or help would be appreciated. Cheers

apparently the knob on the side is a vent knob for condensation.
got power coming out the centre of the distributer, to the rotor but after that nothing comes out to the leads.
so suspecting its rotor and distributer cap.

That would be a good start. :D
Good luck.

Still nothing after new cap and rotor. Back to the drawing board I guess :-(

Ok you've got fuel?
No spark?
codes?
