KP's MX Track Car aka 'Reddy'
-
So I've had my MX for about a year now and have just seen this forum! My end goal is to get it track ready, but we've all got to start somewhere…
The first job was to replace the completely rusted sills, unfortunately both sides.
Suffice to say, for the first couple of months she spent most of her time with her wheels off the ground
-
Next was a bit of clean to the shabby engine bay.
Before…
After (a good clean)…
-
Finally, before the 'Ring I wanted to pimp my wheels. I managed to swap the stock 15"s with some TSW 16"s with lightly used KUMHO tyres.
Before…
After…
At this point, I also replaced the exhaust with the stock exhaust as it was blowing.
-
Now back from the 'Ring, I started by getting some fat off the old girl.
Don't worry, the space-saver also came out!!
-
very nice start love what you done with those wheels good job :D :D :D
-
Cheers! Couldn't stand the stock ones, and those TSW's in silver looked even worse! Defo needed a bit of colour! 8)
-
What did you use to bring the engine up? I haven't found a commercial engine cleaner yet that doesn't say you can't use them on unlacquered aluminium…

+1 on the wheels they look hot.

Famine, honestly just used a wire brush and a spot of WD40. Took ages but as you can see it's well worth it. I'd also get some wire wool to get in the nooks and crannies, esp. round the TB.
I'd love to get it properly done but couldn't stretch to that at the time!
-
I was considering something similar. WD40 is ace :D
-
Totally agree…it gets rid of ALOT of s**t!
-
**sprays Peter Mandelson with WD40
Well… nothing else has worked so far.**

Guys I'm looking to respray the car silk black, but to do it myself. Firstly, is it worth it, e.g. would it be cheaper and result in a better finish if I used a spray house? Secondly, does anyone have any helpful hints they could pass on? :D
ps: Cheers for all the good words!
-
silk black …do you happen to mean satin black...
-
glad you're here!

KP thats what wes will be eventually …im having him redone in satin with a satin lacquer finish..
