Here are my main components with a bit about why:
Voom pc -
Mini ITX- because there's very little room
1gb ram
1 Ghz
20gb HD - I would like to replace with SSD drive for 5 second boot times.
RS232 connection for Megasquirt
Voom Case - rugged and compact
It's not powerful, but it runs most things I want fine. Centrafuse feels a bit laggy.DC-DC - PSU
Has built in start-up and shut-down timers built into them. This is a great advantage over the power inverters. These timers will automatically start the boot-up and shut down procedures for your CarPC. Also means whilst cranking your PC isn't restarting each time as it might with a power invertor. Really it's the only way to go IMO.8" lilliput touchscreen
Touchscreen because really there's no place for a mouse and I don't like trackballs. The downside is the visibility in the daytime. Transflective screens are big money unfortunately.4 channel amplifier- vibe litebox
Unless you have a head unit in conjunction with your carpc you'll need an amp to change the signal from CarPC to amplified sound to your speakers.USB 5.1 channel soundcard
This is to provide 4 inputs to the 4 channel amp, and 1 to the sub. I find these USB ones a bit noisy, I'm looking for a better solution. However it does mean I have surround sound in my car.
