Thinking of selling….. :?

  • Now I've had my MX3 for 6 months and I'm not bored of it but it is costing me a royal fortune every week in petrol. I'm pissing away £30-40 a week using it daily to work and back which in total is a 20 mile round trip each day (so not that much).

I'm thinking of selling to get something smaller and lighter (like a CRX Del Sol) but I don't know how much I could sell the MX for?

    Any ideas?

  • **Don't you dare sell it until I've foisted my seats off to you.

Also, I'd suggest you're using waaaaaay too much fuel. 10mi each way is… kinda short but you should be at least reaching operating temperature and not pissing it away at that rate. Even when I was doing 4mi each way in Red and "being mischievous" on the dual carriageway section, I was getting 220mi to a tank.

Without getting all dad, are you keeping it low in the rev range (sub-3k) until it's warmed? Keeping it in the highest gear you can without making the engine bog (1200rpm or more)? Tyres all running the right pressures? There's loads of things you can do to save fuel rather than sell (cheaply) a "future classic" that you've clearly invested a lot of time in...**

    Cheers Mr.F.

I don't really get chance to push it that much on the way to Teesport, although it is mostly 60-70 most of the way there. One tyre does need replacing though (always having to top it up with air  ). I've replaced the plugs and filter and also flushed the fuel lines out.

It's due an MOT soon so I'll be having it serviced before hand to pick up on any possible faults ( I know the rear disks need replacing  ).

I'm not gonna jump into selling Bert (just named it  ) just yet.

  • just bear in mind the royal shit price of fuel at the moment. On my focus £10 is only enough to get rid of the fuel light. Price here is now £1.20 a litre!! ( unleaded). So unless your going diesel or getting a g-wizz i really dont think your going to save that much.

  • ive got the same problem. but only because i drive it like i ride my bike. so thinking about it no problem really as i enjoy it.

    things that also affect mpg
    wheel/tyre size
    body kits
    ice
    zorst
    any tinkering with engine
    windows and or sunroof open
stuff you dont need in the boot.

oh and who buys a sporty car for good mpg anyway lol

  • Del Sol's make ferocious money (over here at least) for what is basically a rebodied Civic, the difference in price is probably a few months petrol in the MX. You'd be hard pressed to find a car thats as capable handling wise thats also as reliable and cheap to run as the 3. I'd imagine a Del Sol would have a higher loading for insurance too, they did for me at least.

  • Ryans right im sorry del sol's are fetching really good money i had the chance of one for 550 but it needed a little work i could have more than doubled my money on it, i know for certain around me the asking 1500 +

on another note 30-40 notes on petrol a week is cheap to be honest for back and forward to work, i spend 60 just running around.. wes is a v6 also..

stick with the mx bud you know you want to…
