Bust Rev Counter
-
Hi everyone. my foot slipped on the ice this morning and the rev counter redlined and is now sitting at 0 when idle and between 0 an 9 when im driving. I dont think i have done any damge to the V6 as it is driving ok. Is it esy fix to rest the rev counter? Cheers

it would be simple to remove the clocks and see if another set work,
-
The speedo still works and the rev counter moves from a 6 o clock position to 0. Move of an inconvience than anything, i just like things to work right!
-
Hmm that's a new one to me! Maybe a light tap with the old fist?
Jons right though, clock swaps easy enough.
-
Now that i had a chance to look at it properly in the day light, it isn't as bad as i first thought. The level has spun right round so the bit of plastic the counter sits on is blocking it from displaying the revs. If that makes sense? I think i will just have to take the front off the clocks to fix it? Sorry for the lack of technical terms!

oh wow, so the needle came ALL the way around?! That's definately a new one… never heard of that happening before!
Yes you should be able to take the cluster out, and remove the plastic shield and spin the needle back... I would test it in the car before putting everything back together...

I know was a strange one! Is there a how to guide for doing this? Not long bought the mx3 and don't want to damage anything! Cheers

on mine, i snapped the fuel needle when fitting the reverse glow guages. ( very common lol )
Each dial ( temp/fuel , speed, revs ) can all be removed individually, they are just connected to the circuit ribbons with brass screws. So you can replace damaged units and still keep you mileage correct. Unless you damage your speedo of course ( which you havent )
The cluster is very easy to get out, think there is just 4 screws holding it in. Then pull it forward and try and get your hands behind to unplug the electrical connectors. There is no mechanical speedo connections its all just electrical plugs so its very easy. Just need skinny hands to can get them out. And you can still drive your mx around if need be with your cluster out, if you dont finish repair work on time. :D

I was told that you have to disconnect the airbag etc etc. Again, i think a step by step guide is needed from the start!!!

if you got bangbags, disconnect your battery.
if you dont it will all end badly or makes sure a friend catches it on film :D

You don't need to touch the air bag for this as you can leave the steering wheel on to do it.
You can remove all the steering and binacle cowl and the cluster and get enough access to diconnet it all, also enough room to get it out with the steering wheel in the way.
You're not messing with any of the airbag so you shouldn't trigger it off. Even if you are worried about that, leave the battery disconnected for about 30 mins before starting any work.
