Starting issues
-
Hi, recently got my MX3 & had a couple of issues. Just wondering if anyone has come across the first.
When starting, the car will struggle to start and then when it does it will idle quite high and only settle down to idle revs once its been under load and warm then its fine. I read if its run out of fuel it can disrupt the fuel injectors, which is what I'm thinking as the car garage i bought it from ran it out when I went to look at it. Anyone had this problem? Also is there a way of resetting the fuel injectors by disconnecting the battery?
Also had any tappet problems with the v6? If so, any good specialists in the Kent area?!!!!
Thanks.

Hi Bud!
Ok so check vac hoses all the way through, clean your MAF out, Check the throttle body, also there is a pipe (PCV Valve) from the block to the throttle body, its got a little bearing in it, take it off and spray it through with carb cleaner until you can hear the bearing rattle. Have you used a potion to clean the injectors through the fuel? Something like Redex? Give that a whirl as well, I know some people don't really rate potions but I am a firm believer in Redex and its cleaning properties, I use it every time I fill up.
While your buzzing around check for any fuel leaks from the filler area and straight through to the filter under the seat. changing the is a pain but they don't last forever.
Sparks, check any ingress of oil, check the condition of these and of the dizzy cap and rotor, are your leads in good nick?
when you start her up is there anything electrical on? whats the condition of the Alt and accessories belt? give these a good look over, cracks, fraying, pulleys warped or bent.
It could be that your working through filth in the fuel lines, it could be many other things. check that lot, replace as you can and rule out the cheap fixes first. If you still have an issue then keep us up to date with whatever you find. If your not sure, take a picture post it up through 'photobucket' or some such host so we can have a good old look.
Other than that I am out of my knowledge tree. Also I drive a 1.6/1.5 so take it with the good intention it was meant but possibly not entirely applicable, GOD I LOVE FIDDLING WITH THIS CAR! so much fun to play with!!

Hi, thanks for the advice mate. That's a good list to check through!
Think I might go the fuel route first as it seems nothing happens when I turn the key then if you give it a bit of throttle it turns and jumps up, then hovers quite high on the revs and doesn't settle. Is there a way to reset the ecu just incase the 'running out of fuel' thing has disrupted them? I pulled the fuse to the injectors but it doesn't seem to have made a difference.
Cheers.

You can reset the ecu by disconnecting the battery for a spell.
