Doorhandel lights
-
Equipe's do, and I think the SE does as well.
-
Kind of, my SE has a green light around the outside door lock. I'm sure there's a way of routing in a small LED under there.
-
Yeah Ring automotive do a 3 LED prism kit for about a £10, puddle lights in the wing mirrors would be cool as fuk too.
-
Equipes do have them and some of the late 97/98 standard V6 models have them too

From my research on it. There are two types of door handles. They came off of the MX3, MX5, and MX6. There are ABS or plastic handles, and there are pot metal aluminum handles. The Aluminum handles were used for the illuminated handles which only illuminated the drivers side in right hand only vehicles. Probably why we never got them here in the states.
But there is a way to figure it out and there is a small square notch and screw mounting holes on the top of the back side of the handles that can be illuminated, the passenger needs to be drilled and notched out, but has the mounting hole. I have found a few sets on Ebay just the sellers would not ship to US.. I think the lights could be wired in and modded with an LED rather easily.
I found that they can be found in the MX6 easier than the MX3.
-
Huh… now I'm confused.
I was under the impression only the OUTSIDE doorhandles had a small light.
Do the interior doorhandles have it too ??Does anybody have a picture of these handles?
-
My drivers side one does around the keyhole (assume passanger doesnt as I have never noticed.)
-
just to cheer you up, you will find the Mk2 MX-5 1998-2003 has the same door handles as ours and a lot of them have the lights in them too :bigok:
-
On my Mx-3 1995 (N) standard Mx-3 1.8, I've got the light around there… Was pretty happy because I've read it's pretty rare.
-
Yeah they are pretty rare, no images/search results on google…

Is this one ??
It looks like a small bulb on top.

-
nobody can answer? Perhaps Josh since you did all the research
-
It appears that that one is. See on the left side of the handle at the top the square box, that is what you are looking for. Just like this one.
the handles that take a light bulb will be cast aluminum and have this box in the back. BUT only the drivers side. the passenger side, in order to be functional, will have to be cut out to use.
back of passenger side.
-
Let me know what more info you need… I have a set of these in my parts boxes... just haven't had time to install them yet! 8)
And if I remember correctly, the RHD Driver's side and Passenger Side can both take these lights. When I bought mine I got both sides but only the Driver's had the light. So I've been looking for another set so I can put lights in both sides. They are definitely heavier (made of metal).
-
I would like to see any picture of an illuminated key hole ring. That would be something special.
-
Well now you've got me all motivated to finally work on this. I pulled my handles out of the box that I got back in 2011 from Eddy_B on this forum.
I just bought another RHD driver's side off of ebay.co.uk with the light… once it comes in I will start on the project and see where it goes. I'm also trying to incorporate the aftermarket CF shells for the top and bottom of the handle. It would be cool to have those on top and the aluminum backing behind for support! Plus the lights on both sides would be sick! 8)

I agree, i will be patiently watching. I think the best way to hook them up to the alarm system which i do not have one at this point.
-
Mine is hooked up to the alarm system, I love it. Took a pic for you Josh:
-
Mine is wired to the ignition barrel light so you can see where to put the key in without the lghts on, you just lift the drivers handle and all the lghts come on in the equipe
-
That is classy!
