Starting problem - advice please
-
Hi folks, looking for advice again on '95 V6
Engine cut out whilst driving the other day. Breakdown truck towed me home after checking over - no spark was the result. He tested and found power at the dizzy but nothing to plugs.
I've just replaced dizzy cover and HT leads to no effect. Engine turns but doesn't fire.
Checked camshaft turns whilst engine being cranked - so assuming not the timing belt.
Where do I start assuming HT leads & dizzy cap are ok?
What wires should I check on dizzy and what voltage should I see etc.As always any advice guidance gratefully accepted
Thanks
Trevor

I have just had this exact same thing with a eunos I have put back on the road last week, you need a new coil and module kit for the distributor
This is a pic of a post 93 distributor and you should have the black single wire running into a small black plastic box which is a noise suppressor for the radio
OK the coil and module have to be changed together so you will need to buy this and fit it
I am pretty sure these fit all models but email the seller first with your reg number age of car etc to be 100% sure as most people wont refund electrical parts like these
-
Could chance it on a used distributor - just make sure the numbers on it are the same as yours
-
2nd it on the dizzy, mine was exactely the same, tried new cap and rotor but didnt work. New dizzy and the zoom zoom zoom was back on first turn of key!, its easy to change also, took me about 10mins

Thanks guys
One more question - dizzy from mx6 and probe are interchangeable (after carefully checking part numbers!)?
Any other models with same dizzy?Ta :D
-
Dont think mx6 or probe will work mx3
There are 2 models on the mx, there is a number started T on the side. Just make sure you get the same number.

Time to visit the breakers…...... :D

… looks different to the picture djmarcopolo posted. Surprising given it's a 1995.
Do you have a pic of pre '93 version?
Cheers

This is a distributer for a 1995, I got mixed up the small metal suppressor is POST 1993 the black plastic is PRE 93
It has the part number on it

Had me wondering for a bit. Good to see the part number sticker as well (missing on mine).
This is what mine looks like…..How easy is it to set the timing on these engines?
Thanks again guys

the ecu will self adjust, just either mark the existing position or set it in middle. Its a doddle of a job!!

:D

Replaced the dizzy - it is as easy as pie - with one from scrappy. Car still not starting.
Need to check spark etc because initially seemed to try on one cylinder (might bin the new leads I put on) but raining rather persistantly at the momentAny other ideas?
Unfortunately I've had to get another car cheaply for work and been told one must go! Thinking of fixing over summer with fresh MOT then selling but open to offers now as spares/repairs :x

What's your location ?

Pull codes and you'll probably know exactly what it is. If you lived near I'd do it for you!

…would help and now added to profile.
Lytham St Annes.......but previously of Ards

Code reader
Guys, finally got some time to look under the bonnet. I've got spark but still not starting. At least first problem is overcome :D
But now trying to understand where to go.
Assuming I have fuel because I can smell it when cranking.
So…..anyone recommend a fault code reader? Or better still live in Lancs and have one I can borrow?
Thanks :? :?

If you have spark and fuel and air getting in properly anfd not through dodgy airpipes its down to sensors by the sounds of it
-
Progress…..
Got the engine to fire but struggling to run. Will fire then stall after adjusting the rotor (new fits multiple positions, old didn't - silly man).
A bit more fiddling - disconnected connectors to throttlehousing and airbox. Fires and runs. Although searches for idle and finally settles a bit roughly around 600 rpm.
If I open throttle or connect either electrics it cuts out. Assuming rough idle and stalling when throttle opened is more to do with over rich running.
Any thoughts - am I looking at new throttle housing and/or airbox (MAF?) or is it likely to be a dodgy O2 senser?
Does this sound familiar to any of you guys?
Cheers
