Brake problem
-
There is something wrong with my v6. sometimes but not often, when I brake to slow down and still rolling at 5-10mph, the battary & engine lights flashed then the idle just drop and stall the engine. as this doesn't happen all the time, mechanic can't find any wrong with it when he test drive it. brake fluid is good level, no brake fluid lead. pads are only 6 months old. what may be the problem?
Thank you

the brakes run from the vacuum in the inlet manifold, when you brake you may be causing the vacuum to be lost a bit, just a guess though, be worth checking your vacuum lines in the mean time until someone comes along with a better suggestion

Sounds like it could also be a dodgy abs sensor, I'm not fully sure but maybe there is a loose wire somewhere, could be why it is intermittent? Worth a shot maybe to check all the wires as well.

wouldnt rule it out, but no experience of abs myself, he said it stalled on occasion, could an abs fault cause that? maybe a check of the diagnostics port would give you some idea?

I have a dodgy wired ABS sensor, (took the bulb out MOT time;) mine doesnt give any of those sympstoms though..
The vacuum line from the inlet manifold is for the brake servo assist, so one would assume if you had no servo assist(leaky line) the brake pedal would be very hard to press down?

were any modifications/maintenance/parts fitted shortly before these issues happened?
Does your IAC work properly?
-
Sounds suspiciously like a air leak somewhere either on the servo side or inlet
-
whilst we are on the subject, does anybody know if the servo
has a one way check valve installed?
-
it should have one yes…

Thanks guys and ladies should there be any. I haven't got any recent mod, so it is something OEM part caused the problem. The thing that's pazzle me most is that it only happens in occassion. Once happened in the middle of the journey and continuously happended another couples of time, and then everything back to normal, all in one single trip. Looks like I have alot of checking to do. Thanks again

Id do a check on the diagnostics port as a starting point, might show you immediately what the problem is, after that, follow wharts already in the above posts, just be careful when checking the vacuum lines because youll need the engine running while checking and also the vacuum lines could give you a nip or blood blister if you pass a finger/hand over the leak, no idea what the vacuum is on engines, but I once had part of a glove get sucked into a vacuum line and then into the vacuum pump, you wouldnt want that to happen on your car, so I wouldnt use gloves, but the point is, if it could tear apart my nitrile glove and suck it in, you could get hurt, so do please be careful!
