Need a Aluminium engine paint
-
I'm looking for an aluminium engine paint.
I normally ues Hi-Cote VHt and it is very good but its a kind of satin finish (it looks just like fresh alloy) but i'm after something glossy that can be washed down / cleaned more easily.
I tried using some simonez high temp clear coat over the top but it just made it look darker and dull.
Anyone had good results with anything else? Got an engine i'm stripping next weekend and want to get the paint bought by then.
Also I havent got access to leccy so no compressor :( so needs to be aerosol based.
Also need some lambo yellow high gloss paint for a rocker cover so needs to be High Temp but not VHT if anyone has any suggestions.

2k paint is good enough IMO, I sprayed youdirtyfox's rocker cover in 2k, I know he was pleased with it and as far as I know he is still happy with it, I did not use aerosol though as its not proper 2k from a rattle can. Rocker covers don't get hot enough to warrant using VHT IMO

I need the alluminium paint for the block and head and the yellow is for the rocker cover.
Its got to be rattle cans aswell until we get the electrics sorted for the garages and that won't be in time for this job.
This one is only for my bro in laws saxo…

I spoke to a local engine rebuilder who reccomended these anybody used this brand? or know where I can get cheaper?
Its basically the same method I used before with a gloss clear over satin aluminium. Perhaps this is better quality clear??
Do I really need the primer?

Marco is this the stuff you used? looking at their colour range seems like it is.
If so what are they like and did you use primer and clearcoat?
How much did you pay?

Ask the supplier if you can go straight on with topcoat, reckon you may have adhesion issues, personally I would prime it, with regards to the yellow, defo prime before with a white primer as usually yellow is very opaque and can be a bugger to cover any blemishes ,so best to get a uniformed colour first before painting yellow topcoat, I've painted many boat engines and have always used an epoxy primer and then a 2 pack topcoat, better quality than single pack enamals

If I could I would use 2 pack (especially as I can get it for cost of delivery as my dad works for a steel blasting and painting company - got 20 litres of 2 pack oxide primer in black on its way as we speak, I use it to paint the whole underside and inner arches) but i'm stuck without being able to use a compressor at the moment as I said, so its down to cans.
I know I need to use a primer for the yellow, but the alluminium satin paint is funny stuff and for alot of manufacturers is designed to go straight on. But it marks so easy thats why I was thinking of a clear coat over the top.
I was really after a gloss alluminium, might just do a gloss grey.

Powder coat? Beautiful finish and can take heat.

Block would need to be completely bare and blasted then I would imagine to do be able to do that. Would look mint though!
