To mod or not to mod? that is the question.

In my opinion there are no tasteful body kits out there so forget that route.
Upgrade the suspension - yes. It handles like a dream when it's done.
Upgrade discs and pads - yes, always good to stop quicker of you want to push it.
keep up the service, over service always good!
Tyres- get some good boots to go with suspensionEngine - 200bhp if your up for spending some cash
the mx3 responds so well to engine and suspension works it becomes the car it should have always been ( minus the rwd tho :-( )

First thing to do on a MX-3 is to lower it. With that done it already looks good. Second thing is to find a set of good looking rims, 16-17".
As said above, most bodykits will make it look uglier. With one exception i.m.o and that is Mazdaspeed fron and sideskirts. They look awesome.
As for the engine. KLZE is a smart and easy upgrade. If you dont want to spend that money - find an even cheaper KLDE 160-170 hp. It will perform well too with its good torque.
Then for the astethics. Projector headlights and clear indicator lights.
Thats all you will need to get a good looking and a pretty fast car.
(Someone should be writing a modders guide to the FAQ :) )

Thumbs up on the clear indicators and lowering it is a must but remember anything over 40mm will be seriously pushing the limit of the stock dampers.
Stay away from 18" rims I had some on one of mine and they were so low profile you could feel a spec of dust.

@b0f91d569f=youdirtyfox:
fully standard looking but properly low on coilovers is a winner imo.
What foxy said. Big no an Altezza (or Lexus or them hideous pieces of crap you see on 17 year olds chavved up cars!) lights.
Subtle tasteful mods, unlike the garbage you see when you type in "modified MX3" into google images.
I was all against 17 inch wheels before I lowered my car, the front wheel arch is just too big for 15's, so I've got some 17's waiting to go on.
But all in all it's up to you, I think my street race/track slag/abused look is good (mainly because I use my car daily and I can't be arsed to keep it looking pristine) but others will hate it, the world, as they say, is your oyster.

hello mx-3 admin, mine was a 1995 and was obd1. just letting you know :) shame its gone. i miss it already
-
thanks for the comments guys,
i am now definately leaning towards the subtle approach.
for the time being my budget wont run to a new lump but the coilovers, and bigger wheels is do-able.
i'm also thinking of removing the spotlights from the front and installing a cold air feed from there (as seen in other posts  )
if i can run to a respray as well then that will also happen as at the moment she is showing her age! if not then I'll be removing bumpers and the like and trying my hand at paint too!!
thanks for the input everyone and I'll add pics when i remember to take some!
-
stick with 15's or 16's if you can get coilovers :D
7 inch wide fills out the arches nicely!Re: paint , it is soo worth paying the extra
saving yourself the bother and getting a proffesional
respray of blowover, the finish and longevity is much
improved.

daniel wiley: Its not just about it being OBDI if it has an Imobiliser and airbags you still can't use that loom for the swap its different from the early loom that does not have these features.
