Sam's Proper MX-3 - LT Turbo project *Parting out*

  • @68a52dcf41=youdirtyfox:

do it mate, just trace round your bumper
then bring the shape forward about 50mm,
probably going to need some 'U' nuts
to fix it to the underside of the original
    splitter and obviously those supporting
rods to stop it flapping about at speed
wich will get bolted to the bumper support :D

thanks i just need the plastic now lol

  • we got very lucky with that I must admit
    this stuff bends without shattering
and even at the point it would it
just bends over and creases like a shatterproof
ruler. If we had more I would make you one,
but its still goto to do my mates cupra front splitter
and maybe some side skirts, if theres any left
after that though I will give you a shout

  • @1706c34f4a=youdirtyfox:

Cut out my front wind splitter today
from a piece of 5mm black plastic
sheet we had at work wich came on
a palet protecting some metal, its the perfect
    stuff!

Looks the bollocks mate. I think you should make these and sell them, I'll take one, it's the exact thing I was trying to do with my V6 splitter and the Cupra splitter (but I can't be arsed smoothing them together yet, or possibly ever).

  • i cant wait to see what it looks like on the car

  • @56570d3e67:

Looks the !@"* mate. I think you should make these and sell them

If I had a workshop and the raw materials I would,
    but alas I have neither….

  • got the splitter on the bumper now!
had to make some panel clips using
some stainless and bolted together with
    M4 x 16mm bolts and nyloc nuts

got the splitter support rods too,
but there going to have to wait to be fitted
as I need to make some alu posts to fit them.

as you can see it attaches the to back edge
of the original splitter with clips so I didnt actually
drill through the original splitter, also got some nice rubber
edging to go right the way along.

  • I'm stealing the idea for you lights if you don't mind fella, just the clusters though. I can grab a load of circular sections from work. Just read your worklog from start to finish, good work fella, how's the turbo coming along?

  • Nah cause I dont mind :) Low tack masking film is the way to do it
though that vinyl I used was just too sticky when removing it!

Plans for the Turbo are coming along nicely ta >

Need to get the manifold shot blasted and checked for cracks
and possibly welded up, and drill out broken stud and replace that
    Buy gaskets and oil lines,
    water hoses.
Buy shorter radiator (323F 89-94 hopefully) to pass intercooler pipes past.
swage up current alloy straight boost pipes (none of this mild steel stuff
the yanks use :? ) find a few more black rubber elbows
Buy centerforce clutch and AEM fuel and Ignition controller
I have a choice of MR2 or 323 Turbo intercooler to fit up.

Hopefully I can get all that together by the end of the summer
and if its too cold and wet to fit it'll be going in spring 2012.

a bit with those support rods as it hoofs
up in the air a bit!
